Anyone tried the EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 I.S. yet?

The EF-S 55-250 IS is pretty new, and only a couple of places here in the U.S. stock it so far, but I'm curious if anyone has tried it yet. The search function on here is stalling out, and I can't find any decent reviews by Googling it yet, so checking to see if anyone has any hands-on experience with it yet here?

Impressions? CA or corner softness problems, etc?

Where have you found this lens in the U.S.?

Last I heard Canon was not going to release the lens in the U.S in the near future and hadn't said when it would be available for other markets.

42nd Street photo in NYC shows it in stock on their web site.
 
If they're importing the lenses and are the only source of them, then they're probably charging a premium.

Does anyone know what the actual MSRP will be when Canon gets around to officially launching in the US?

I still see the 55-200 on the Canon USA site, not the 55-250.
 
local canon distributor in the Philippines says it's about US$270 when it gets here
 
Although many online retailers in Germany show the EF-S 55-250 in their catalogues, it's not actually available to purchase yet. Does anyone know what's behind the delay?

I don't know if there's anything special except that it's a new product, and that they have a lot of orders. Canon said that it should have come in in October, but "something" happened. My order used to state "unconfirmed date" for many weeks, but it now says: "Confirmed: Nov 30th"
