I'd probably fit in well with Japanese society:

"No you did not step on my foot. But I apologize for placing my foot under your own!"

Thanks Uly,

I know in the first few weeks I was a culprit of posting questions which already had detailed answers in previous posts. As I spend more time going through here on a daily basis, looking for news, information, tips, or questions I might be able to answer, it becomes very frustrating to sort through duplicate questions and redundent information. I also get very upset when I find that someone is attacking another member or the forum itself. If you want to critisize, be constructive and not beligerent. I became enamoured with this forum because of the talent of the photographers here and the devotion that they have to bettering themselves and thier knowledge of thier craft and equiptment. I truly apreciate what many of it's members have done to help all of us improve.

You see my point?????

Ah - let it more loose - just ban those who go against common law!
Let free speak rule - that is - that free speak falls under common law!

You may set up Your own rules - But isn't it easer to just the use the freedom of "free speak" rule - under the main subject "SONY Talk FORUM" -it gives it more color, spices, angles....etc!

Hey there, James -

Questions are good. Debate is welcomed. Differences of opinion are easily tolerated. We even seem to like seeing pictures from different cameras, as long as it's a NICE picture. :)

Badgering and bashing are against the forum rules and are never appreciated by anyone. It contributes nothing to the camera company, and it does nothing to change public opinion.

Bashing certainly does nothing to help the photographic skill of others here. If people followed what is called in some cultures the "Golden Rule", then there wouldn't even be a need for forum rules and guidelines. But those are placed there for those who are inclined to abuse the privileges of others.
Thanks Uly,

Bo:
Are you addressing me?

Perhaps you overlooked the theme of the thread "self-analysis". I'll do my own personal review, I do not need you pointing fingers.
Also, if you read the rules (again) you would note:

"These forums are privately owned and run, they are not public." As such, your common law and free speech does not apply.
Thank you.

Well I must say,
I came to this forum knowing it was a PRIVATE one! I read all the rules

and regulations. I agreed with them all. It was nice to fine a place on the Net that still had some morals! My feeling is if a person don't like the rules here they are FREE to go elsewhere.
Good Luck,

Bo, I think you misunderstand. Ulysses is not the one making up the rules. This is Phil Askey's website and Phil set up the rules and Ulysses has only copied them and posted them as a reminder. Since we are all guests of Phil's, we need to respect and follow his rules. Personally, I think the no nudes rule is a very good one, since this site is not a restricted one and kids can freely come here and read the posts and participate. We have one member who is between 14 and 15 years old (Sarah D...please correct me if I'm wrong!) and I'm sure her mother (Cindy D) appreciates this rule! Others, like myself, get a bit tired of seeing the supposedly artistic nudes that you find on some of the other gallery sites...and really like the refreshing lack of them here. But, in any case, it's Phil's site, Phil's rules...and thanks Uly, for reminding us! Nee

Although, I definately feel that much nude photography is in the interest of art and good taste, I like that this forum does not allow it. I do, on occassion shoot some nude/semi-nude photographs for my own practice and experience and enjoy the challenge and appreciate the beauty that I can sometimes achieve out of these shots, but there are too many issues associated with posting these types of pictures. Is the model aware of your posting? What if a minor were to view the pictures? Wouldn't phil have to deal with legal disclaimers as well as screening out minors if he allowed it? There are many other sites and forums where you can post these pictures and get critiques, so I don't believe these rules hinder anyones artistic development. We also would have to deal with subjective opinions as to whether these pictures are artistic or pornographic, which is something that I'd rather not deal with. Furthermore, I would hate to shut out youths to allow a small genre of photography to be posted in this forum. Also, you might note that you can post a link to such pictures, assuming they were taken in good taste, with only a disclaimer to state that they are nude/semi-nude. This has been debated before, and I'm sure if you run some searches on this forum about it you will find many more reasons to keep things the way they are. I realize that it is 2002 and I don't feel that the human form is something to be ashamed of, especially in the context of art, but laws are laws and they are there to protect us all, including parents with aspiring amatuer photographer youth who would like thier children to have a nudity-free place to go on the web.

Thanks for listening,

James

James,
I understand that some people consider nude photography as Art.
And to a certain extent I guess I can see why.

Some person on this forum a short time back posted something to the effect that they were fed up with another photographic site (photosig) because of all the so called nude "Art" that could be seen there. I had never heard of this site and went to check it out for myself. Yes the Female body is beautiful but I tell you some of the photos on that site should be considered "Pronography" not Art. I choose not to view photos like those and choose not to consider them as Art! That is one reason I like this forum.

"Have you ever wondered why most of the so called nude Art photography includes mostly Female's as subjects?" Not that I want to see male nude photos! Not me! Just trying to make a point!
wb

I do not post here much. I do read all the time. I like this site, just the way it is! I read at work on lunch. If there were nudes here I would not be able to do that. There are plenty of other places for that all ready.

I bought my F707 in October and enjoy it big time. I have played with photography for years as a hobby. I learn things here all the time!

If anyone feels this is not a good site, find another. I belong to another site like this for another hobby and I have to pay by the year for access.
This is free, like it or leave it? Thanks everyone for the great info!

Ulysses, thank you for posting this information.

I would also like to say thank you for the restriction on the "No Nude" pictures. I share this site with my children and other friends and family. I would have to "hide" it for myself if Voyeuristic and Nude pictures were allowed here.

This is too great a site and forum to have to do that. =)

I don't really understand your post. Maybe you can answer a couple of questions for me, like what is BFS, and this DLS thingy.

Can anyone here help me post a photo, I see you guys doing it all the time and have a picture I really want to show you.

Hey Phil, when are you going to have 3 dimensional photos, like hologram stuff I see on TV, that would be sweet!

If any of you are interested I am selling my old Zepher 123 Ultra Digi cam for 20 buck, call me!

If you don't want a used one, go to my website to buy a new one http://www.scammart.com

I posted this for sale message in all the forums just so no one will miss it

And if no body buys one then your all lamers and need to get a life or something :-( because I am the greatest thing out thee, so there.

Beside everyone know the memory stick is the lamest thing to ever be invented to enslave digicam users. What do think an multimedia memory cards...they rock!

I feel compelled to say again how much Sony is really lame, and they are a skin of pure evil. I think I will post this every day to get my message across to them.

I am going to be posting pictures of the camera, and to make it easy for everyone to see them I am going to post each picture in a new thread. It will be a full page of nothing but pictures, won't that be great.

I just got to thinking you may not be interested in the camera pictures so each camera pic will be held in the hands of a nude (artistically) women. That will get people looking.

Hmm, it seems no one is willing to pose for me, so I will get some voyeuristic one with my 1000x zoom lens.

I have read all the posts in this thread and agree with most of them...

But.

If you are a new poster (I guess like me) it can sometimes be difficult to search the forum for information. The stf is so huge that even if you do a search you still return so many threads.

For instance I had a question about the flash settings (a topic that has been discussed a few times before :) and did a search and it returned more than 30 pages of hits...

I then decided to post a new thread and hope someone could help me out (so far no good :)...

My point is the forum is always moving, older members start being more specific about the threads they post in but there should always be new members prepared to answer the questions that the older members are sick of.

I can honestly say the only thread I am sick of seeing is "Price match at Sears"... :)

Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Cheers,
Sydoz - yet to post a photo due to dial up!!!
