G9 users... Are you happy with the camera?

So far I really like the G9. It takes superb pics.

G9 users, I have a question for all of you. Have you tried using an external flash with it? How is the refresh time? I am asking because When I had the G7, the external flash refresh time was not that good specially when compared to the refresh time using the s5is which is pretty quick. I am thinking of saving up for a G9 and would just like to know how is it's flash performance for both built-in and external flash. Thanks in advance =)

Well after sending mine back they have mapped the dead pixels and the LCD still have them, (but you can see them only when the LCD is black). I think this is the best point&shoot at 12MP out there. And after I got my 40D I started to like the G9 even more, because of it's size and for how many features does it have.

I don't have something online, but you should find some here on this forum.
if you use the a 430EX with light bounce you get great photos.
with external flash it's 10 times better than with the internal flash.

Bryan,
These are perfect exposures and looks great.
I also use 420EX but exposure is not as consistent as I would like.
Do you mind sharing the settingsi ncluding settings in flash control menu?
I usually try M mode with f/4 and 1/60 and in flash control it is set to auto.

Flash Control Menu:

Auto
FEC - +2/3
1st Curtain
Off
On

I usually shoot with external flash and camera in Manual. that way I can adjust the shutter speed up or down with more control over the flash's effect on the image.

For ambient lighting, I generally choose a slower shutter speed - 1/60, etc...

I leave the 420 off High Speed sync (on the green dot in other words).

It would seem that you shoot with flash and settings similar to my own. Another trick however, try slightly higher ISO's. Two of the sample shots I posted were shot using ISO 400. When properly exposed, even on a P&S camera, high ISO's can be perfectly clean and usable. :)

I have owned 8 P&S cameras. The G9 is by far the best. I find that I now use it more than my 20d and bag of lenses.

Shutter speed has no influence in flash exposure. Guide number, aperture value, and distance to subject have.

Indoors photographing my children I use shutter priority set at 1/30, 1/60, or 1/125, depending on fast/slow they are moving. Then I leave it to ETTL to sort out the rest. It is basically a flash-dominant exposure technique.

Outside, for fill-in, I use aperture priority to control depth-of-field.
