White circle in Pics on S30?

I a mgetting a round white circle in many of my pic...sometimes it is very faint other it is very noticable....it is round in shape ..almost like it is a reflection from viewfinder???

It is not seem in all pics...It ruins many good pics...

anyone else have this...I am taking this S30 back to BB and getting a new one....

this is a big downer on a great camera

It would help if you uploaded a picture. Most times such circles appear it is only dust. Go have your lens clean--or do a search here to find out exactly how to do this. Then let us know if it solved your problem.

if it's on some pictures, then it's probably lens flair. the s30 has no hood so that can be a problem. a picture of it would be best though....

mostly becareful when you point it in the direction of the sun.

I saw this same problem recently but I don't remember where, here or another forum. Someone suggested that the photographer had a finger on the front of the camera too close to the flash and/or lens and that was causing the disturbing spots. I recently got the exact same spots with my S40. I moved my finger from the front of the camera and reshot and there were no spots. This has happened to me a few times and each time I reshoot with my hand repositioned and it takes care of the problem.

These are indoor photos..sorry forgot to say that..it is perfectly round and in a different spot in the picture

Also have intense changes with the photo....

Paige where was your hand to cuase this...

My right hand is on the cover .... left never really notice...very good thought...

I have no place to upload the photos....is there a place I can do this...

I did see this concern elsewhere..I thought on this forum..but I do not see a search function..

if you can get us a picture we can clarify it.

since it's indoors, it's probably dust that the flash lit up. otherwise you have a ghost in your house. but without a picture it's all speculation.

I tend to put my right middle, ring and pinky fingers on the front of the camera while my index finger is on the shutter. I've been more careful lately though.

I don't know why but I've found that if my fingers are there (espcically in indoor shots) the spots appear (in various places each time) and if I move my fingers they aren't there. Sorry I can't explain why... I am so new at photography that everything is a lesson to me!

Maybe I'll take some pictures and upload to show you what I mean.

inside there may be dust. and the flash will light i up if it's close to the lens.

Thanks I did a better search and seems this is a dust problem....
I will upload the pics later..thanks...

just very strange that occurs with such frequency though..I never saw it with my Toshiba PDR-M71 that I returned for the canons30

also strange at how faint or prounced they are...

Hi Neal,
In your search you may have found the most dramatic proof I have seen.
Flash in a night club/bar shortly after it opened--a few ghostly orbs.
A few hours later with many people & much smoke--wow, all over the place.

Dust & junk in the air with flash put the semi-transparent orbs all over the place.
I have never seen this with any other format than digi.

I had several photos with white circles under various circumstances: outdoor, perhaps from lens flare, indoor with flash, most likely from reflection off shining surface such as glass or chinaware. It may happen to any camera, not just the S30.

I have seen the same problem with a few of my S40 pictures. Here is one of them, taken in Tokyo Disneyland, outdoor not indoor. Check the 3 circles, top-middle, right, and bottom-right side.

Btw, picture has been cropped and resaved to make it smaller.

if i had to guess i'd say a dot of oil on the lens. theres a little bluish on one side, looks like aberations.

looking at the cabinet, i'm wondering what the rainbow is from.

I took 2-3 pictures of the same background, and it only showed up on this one. It's definitely not dust on the lens, most probably dust in the air.
