I hate the USPS and am not happy with Amazon either

I wouldn't be so quick to claim that Amazon did not request a signature.

I sent a package via Priority mail with Certified(Tracking) and Signature Confirmation options, both of which I had to pay extra for) and the package was delivered with not signature and the tracking number was never scanned.

The package was sent to the FBI it contained my finger prints, my passport, and a form which had my social security number and many other personal details. Although I paid for those options the USPS told me "The FBI mail room is huge and we send them a lot of mail every day. We can't wait for someone to sign all those forms and we can't take the time to scan all that mail."

I argued with them for weeks. One day, while the USPS is still investigating my claim, my FedEx man arrives with a package from the FBI with my return documents. The package had arrived and (fortunately for me, unlike the OP) had been received by the FBI mailroom

The USPS never done they promised or what I paid for.

I order a lot of stuff on Amazon, I have it delivered to my home and I almost always have to sign for things. I bet this isn't Amazon's fault at all.

-- Side note, for the person ordering $8000 of equipment, rethink not using Amazon. You could get their credit card, save $30 instantly, then get triple points on the purchase and receive $240 in Amazon Cash to use on the next purchase. It sure will lower the cost of that purchase.

Why would you blame the usps for delivering the parcel the same way they deliver all the other parcels? Your carrier probably didn't know what was in the package. If I bought something as expensive as a camera online I would make sure how it was shipped and where it was shipped beforehand...Bob

The office building has a central location where all USPS mail is
delivered. It is one of those multiple mailbox wall units in the
lobby (like an apartment building). There are 20+ different
companies in the building.
Jerry, I hope you spent part of the day looking into those 20+ offices to see if someone picked it up by mistake. Someone else could have ordered something from Amazon as well.
Keep us posted with your progress..........

Not really a side note. The $8000 buyer is the OP who got hosed!

Had a similar incidence like you & as Bob carthy said in earlier post, there could be mishandling in your order or delivery which could take place in day or two, so have more patience. In the meantime, instead of calling over phone with USPS try to go to your local dispatch center of USPS (where you routine pick-up your packages if they can't deliver) & talk in person with the employees, they'll guide you in better way there (I did that & indeed, they found my package somewhere else in the office. Apparently somebody has taken it personally to deliver it in evening on his way home but forgot to do so)
Anyway, have patience & try different means of searching & you could be lucky.

I have no regard for USPS, and increasingly less regard for Amazon,
as they try to be everything. However, instead of "assuming" it'll be
this way, you need to take a bit more responsibility and ensure your
purchase will be sent to a secure location. I have a similar problem,
I've taken care of it, and I have no problems, no matter who sends
it, or how.

Think about it.
Think about what? What is your magic solution?

But I read your post below and it is a good way to handle the problem. (This last sentence is edited in.)

Well, that's really something. How do you edit something in after you've posted it? Or did you respond, go back and look before you posted it, then add something

It would be nice to be able to have second thoughts about a post -- especially if you get a little hot-headed about something (which, of course, we never do).

That's called stealing and that supervisor should be fired.

... or so, after you write a post, with the ability to "edit" your message. Phil added that a couple or so months ago to the forum software. Check it out!

Right below your post - see the options - it's the 4th one over "edit" and you can edit it one time only within a 20 minute time frame only.

Whoops! I just had to edit this one - it's actually the 3rd option below.

Excellent idea - go there - find out who your delivery person is - and ask if he recalls the package......who knows. It's worth a shot.

The change-up in delivery format must be someone's means of protecting profit margin. Where's the basis for that margin if the customers leave the "supplier" due to delivery problems? Is there any person responsible for the storage/delivery point of those goods at the worksite?

Perhaps it is because I've been a long time customer but when I've had the odd Amazon package disappear like yours (OP) did, it was promptly replaced -- generally with expedited shipping regardless of the original shipping method.

I've only had good customer service experiences with Amazon AND with the Marketplace dealers as well.

That's exactly why I said to call until he gets someone who will help him. My experience with Amazon was similar - but nothing disappeared. I needed to send something back and customer service person argued with me. I called back and got a wonderful person who went over and above the "call of duty."

I can't believe it. I ordered a S3 from Amazon and specified normal
shipping. The shipping used to be via UPS and the UPS guy dropped
them off in our office. (I have things shipped to my office).

Apparently Amazon now uses the USPS in normal shipping (depends on
where an order is shipped from). Since our building has a central
location for all the tenant company mail boxes, the USPS does NOT
deliver to the office. Rather they leave packages piled up at the
common mailbox area. And guess what, my S3 is missing.

A call to the USPS show that they list the cameras as delivered also.
So I must have the camera. No! "OK, we will start a theft
investigation. BTW, did Amazon require a signature? They should or
else we don't know where the package was delivered."

My advice. Don't ship via USPS. And consider Amazon.coms use of the USPS.

I understand your frustration, fortunately for me, I never have problem with UPS delivery. Perhaps, it depends on the INDIVIDUAL driver and the local UPS office. The last UPS delivery was less than a week ago. As for Amazon, I tried them last December. The $40 item happen to be misrepresented in their ad. I am aware that DPR belongs to Amazon when Phil sold to Amazon (6 months ago, I think).

If you pay with credit card, specially with AmEx, one phone call is all you need to do. Other credit card depends on the issuer. I used to have excellent service from MBNA issued Visa / MC. Unfortunately, MBNA was acquired by another Bank and service went south thereafter.

Consider contacting your local BBB and your State AG Office if you did not use credit card or if your credit card company is not helpful.

Goodluck.

Many times I've had to take the day off work to sign for some stupid little $50 item someone decided to require a signature for. On the other hand, I've had $1000+ items left on my door. Luckily the neighborhood is pretty safe, but still taking a chance.

So why don't vendors let you MAKE the choice?

At any rate, I wouldn't blame Amazon, you're the only one who knows you buildings circumstances. But it's not your fault either - I'd say no package, no pay (oops, I sent you the money but someone else took it? too bad, I don't have to pay)

This who affair just points out the weaknesses in our delivery system. I know some people at my work who vanpool 50 miles day - and my work does NOT allow UPS shipments. So how would they get an expensive item delivered?

You didn't mention when it was scanned delivered but if it was just
yesterday, give it day or two to show up. It's possible someone else
in the building picked it up with other packages and won't notice the
mistake until today and will return it to you. I have also seen some
carriers who scan all of their parcells as delivered as soon as they
sort them in the morning. Then if they end up with too many parcels
that day, they will deliver priority parcels first and parcel post
will have to wait for another day. I think there's a good chance it
will show up. Bob
Bob,

I appreciate your input. The item was found on Saturday and they called me. The local post office has it and I take some time off some time next week to pick it up. The package showed in the USPS online system as delivered as of Monday afternoon. My first post was on Wednesday when the packed still had not been delivered.

It was interesting to see how the packages are handled. I am surprised that a carrier could mark a package as delivered prior to actually making the delivery. I can see such as system could easily result in errant data in the online tracking system.

Jerry states that his camera was found and now needs to take some time off in order to pick it up at the post office. As I've pointed out before, someone must've scanned (or mis-scanned) it "delivered" AFTER s/he found out that s/he forgot to deliver the parcel and was told not to redeliver because it's too far or it's gonna cost the PO overtime pay. They should've scanned it "attempted," even though it's still somewhat of a stretch--but at least truthful compared to them saying it's "delivered."

Jerry did the right thing by contacting the post office directly. Venting is okay, but remember, nobody's perfect, unless you are personally willing to pick it up directly from Canon's factory. Next time you order anything, request the desired shipping method with this incident in mind and choose, if possible, a more secure option that requires a signature for peace of mind. More often than not this will NOT be free.

Pablo

Sometimes UPS just leaves a package at the door even though a signature is required. I don't know why they do this but it has happened to me a few times. I'll come home and there is a package waiting for me that had required a signature - but it's between the 2 doors on the front porch. Now, if the package disappears, then I'm assuming it is the fault of UPS (driver).....correct?
