Mindstor Battery Survey and Sony MS

Mike T.

Thanks for the post. I'm going to the Benelux countries next week for 16 days. I bought 2 extra batteries thinking that I wouldn't have to mess around bringing the ac adaptor/charger. Your a life saver. I'm defintely bringing it now and a blade to round adaptor. I agree about the car charger. I got one that charges my F707 battery out of the camera and an extra battery. It works great.

The Good: Mindstor was a lifesaver! I was a little nervous about
carrying it on hikes with me but I did and it is still working fine.

The Bad: I took four batteries and only got about 10 uploads per
battery.

The Ugly: I fully charged all four batteries before leaving. I
charged for more than 3 hours and all four bars were showing. When
I turned the unit on for the fist time I was shocked to see only
two bars showing, but I remembered reading that they can drain if
left plugged in but turned off. I was even more shocked when I
plugged in the others that had not been in the unit since initial
charge and they ALL showed only two or three bars. Needless to
say.... on my last day in Big Bend, I found myself standing in the
restroom (only plug to be found) uploading memory sticks :(

This is a great device if you have access to electricity. If you
don’t...make sure to get plenty of batteries. I will have to
see if they have an auto adaptor or of one can be made...that would
have worked much better.

Thanks

I bought my from dealcat.com. I think they have the lowest price. I had good experience with them. They ship as promised. I bought the 10MB CF version, just becuase I have PCMCIA adapter for my MS before hand. The unit I recieved has battery problem. I call MindStor and they sent me replacement battery in a week. I am happy with it.

Quick survey for all of you Mindstor owners out there using Sony
MS. How many uploads can you get on a full charge? I realize that
this may vary by memory stick size and power useage, just looking
for estimates. I am looking at the 5gb Mindstor using 128ms. I
will be on a week long trip with NO electricity and am wanting to
guage how many batteries to buy.
Thanks for your help!

MikeT,

Sorry, that batteries didn't work out well for you. If I am not mistaken. I think that the way battery is when they are new. They need to be drianed all the way and charge all the way couple of times before they can be used with they full capacity. Another word, battery won't be fully charged for after few drains.

Nice photo, How do you like your 707?

I will have to eperiment and see if the battery life increases in time.

Thanks for the comment. I absolutely LOVE the camera! My only wish is that it had longer shutter speeds for night shots and a wireless remote.

Mike,

I found that when charging the batteries and the unit shows full charge (not scrolling) then unplug, power down and then plug the unit back in. Then the unit will continue charging, i can get about 4-5GB of downloads on one charge when doing this.

While we're talking about Mindstor, I have two questions:

1. Have anyone tried Mindstor with generic 128mb CF? How many transfers did you get out of it?

2. Would Minds@Work make a new battery pack with 6x750mah AAA batteries? I know of one eBay-store that sells the individual AAAs, but I'm not into breadboarding and soldering.

Wow, 4gb on one charge. I will def have to try that.
thanks

I repeatly 'charged' it till the bars stopped. But it was a brand new battery, and no real drain was done. Why do you ask?

Also; i've downloaded sticks one after another (same stick with same data) so till it stopped... 21 times... 22'th stopped halfway if i remember correct.
How many times had you drained and charged the battery prior to the
downloads?
