Eastern Towhee

DL,

This is truly a beautiful shot. If this is the same species of
bird, here in Missouri they're called "rufous-sided towhee". It
looks similiar.

I can't help but notice the feet and legs on this bird. My wife
and I wondered if this is an older, very mature bird. Also, its'
right foot looks like it is missing a toe. Could just be the
camera angle. Very interesting.

Anyway, you've done it again. The master of dpreview bird
photography. thanks for sharing, again........

Beagler
Thanks Beagler, he looks very healthy, but I am going to email link to some professional birding sites and see if this is normal. DL BTW Rufous-sided is like a nickname, thats what he is. DL

Okay, DL, now every time you post a pic, I keep thinking it's your
best yet. Now, THIS one is your best yet!! WOW! That camera was
worth the expense, for the pleasure it's giving you........hey, you
could have spent that much on a one week trip to Fargo or
somewhere, and after a week it'd be gone!!

Marilu
Thanks Marilu, I sure hope I can continue surprising you and you changing "best" title. LOL, I send thw wife home to Ireland for vacation, I stay home, DL

Hi DL,
Woweee, this Towhee needs a pedicure! Gorgeous photo. Keep this up
and you may have a future with National Geographic when you retire!
:-) Very very nice, the detail and colors are breathtaking. Curt A.
Thanks Curt, LOL, National Geo, me? that would be nice, I was sooo pleased when I looked at this one all last year only able to get a couple of so so photos of this bird. DL

Hi DL,

Since I have no more superlatives left I will just say wow. Great
looking bird, great looking image. I am happy that the new camera
is working so well for you.

Stan Abraham
Thanks so much Stan, I love the camera and of course all the help in the chat. DL

DL - Another great picture. I like the green background on this -
it makes a nice foil to the bird's colors. I noticed how rough the
Towhee's legs were - seems to be quite different from those of
other birds I seen.

Regards
John
Thanks John, yes the legs strike me as unusual and I am going to email some pro's and see what I can find out. DL

Hi DL, sorry that I haven't been around, boy it is crazy right now and I'm having to work late. When I get home seems like I'm not much good hehe. Again you showed me something new! I never in my life have seen this bird...or I've never noticed them. Beautifully done and with great sharpness.
with respect,
Larry
My Towhees have returned, I have not seen the female yet, last
year I had the good fortune to have them all summer and see their
young. They like to feed in the brush but once again the cracked
corn was to much to resist. DL

If I had a zoom lense like that...lol

Very good, I like the texture ontop of the log alot, and how crisp the whole photograph is.
