Just a warning about PayPal. I sold an item to someone and he paid by PayPal. It was only $40.00 and it went into my paypal account. It has been there 2 months and I thought nothing of it until I tried to donate $25.00 to Pbase. It said my account was restricted! and I had to send bank statement, drivers license, utility bill and also they made 2 deposits to my checking account for verification, all this to send my own money! Well in the end they locked my out of my account period. No phone # to call and just automatic return e-mails to any inquiry I make. They all tell me to log in which of course I can't because they locked my account. After some research I came up wth the following web site.
If you have an account with them check this out http://www.paypalwarning.com
I thought this was a legit company, but boy am I wrong.

I've had a bad experience with PayPal too. To long and detailed to go into on the forum. I hear your pain.

Ken,

Sorry to hear about your problems with PayPal. I have not had any problems with them and have done at least 350 transactions with them. I even just had to complain on a seller who accepted my money and never sent me my item. The return mail they had as I had was no good. And in two weeks time I had the money back in my account.

Now, I don't ever leave money in my PayPal account. I transfer it instantly to my checking account.

I have a friend that had a situation with paypal. I think it took him over a month to get it straighted out. If I buy anything on an auction service I won't pay out nothing I can't bear to part with. I also buy from sellers that have a consistant record of positive responses. One or two gripes about shipping costs don't bother me......if the have any responses saying I never got my item I won't even bother with them.

Hmm.. i have been using them for more than a year now without any problem....I never leave money in there though..i transfer it right away.

So far i have been sending money to Canada and its really convenient and they have a really good exchange rate.

You can have the money sent to you in a check but they charge $ 1.50 I think.

Dave,

I did,nt plan on closing the account, I just wanted to donate $25.00 of the $40.00 credit I had in the account, to Dbase. Sounds simple huh. My money that they show is in my account, but all of a sudden I can't have it or any part of it! Just try and find a phone # after 5 or 6 e-mails.they wont even let me back into my account. I am locked out. The $40.00 is not going to bankrupt me, it's the principle.

Hopefully all will be ok. They have tried and tried to get me to become "Certified or whatever it's called but I won't give them my bank account number. They have never been able to explain to me why they need it. I have $220 in there now so will probably have it sent by check. I've done it a few times. Cost $ 1.50, I just looked it up. This does'nt close your account.
Dave

Dave,
They would not let me do that!

Just saw an almost identical post on a forum far, far away. Turns out Paypal isn't doing so well, and is being hit on many sides (state of Calif. just sued them for not meeting banking regulations, problems with IPO, etc.)

Just specualtion on my part, but I think they are trying to stockpile cash by using delaying tactics - a practice perfected by Dell and AOL among others.

IFs a big internet company has your caash, and want to do that, there is nothing much you can do to stop them.

From now on I'm going to avoid PayPal like the plague. Spread the word.

I've used paypal only one time only because the seller in Hong Kong insisted I pay via paypal. Paypal kept insisting over several days that I send them my bank account info, but I wanted to pay with a credit card. After being placed on hold for 45 minutes to speak with CS, they informed me that they were worried that my transaction would fail if I used a card. CS insinuated that my credit cards were no good. I use all of my credit cards and pay them off monthly. This transaction was $220.00 After reading about the class action law suits against them, I decided to open a free checking account with mimimal funds, and use it for this one transaction. I will close this account when finished with the deal and then, Good-bye Paypal! Marty

You can wire the money from your bank which is more secure, but at $42.00 per wire (international), that's pretty pricey. In the future, I will not bid on any auctions that require paypal as a prerequisite. In the past, I've always sent a US Post Office money order or a cashiers check. Marty

Has anyone tried Citibank's C2it service?

http://www.c2it.com

Obviously not as well known/used as Paypal right now, but perhaps poised to clean up should Paypal's troubles continue?

I opened free account at my bank to use for varifications and transfers, etc. It has a debit card with small limit and I do all my auction business with it.

I perfer PP over eBay's services. I got varified just after opening PP account, and have never had a problem. Good communication when transactions take place. Transfers to my account are made quickly and I am notified (I do transfer as I am paid).

Realize that the freezing of your account was probably for your own protection as they had to varify who was requesting funds. Would you not be more upset if they had allowed someone access that should not have been allowed access?

Good luck in the future.
