Which ultra wide angle lens, Canon or Sigma?

It is not more expensive. And he'll never be able to sell a used lens
for a price even close to the price he'd have to pay for a new one.
I've had both Canon 10-22 and Sigma 10-20 at some point in time. I sold the Canon 10-22 for $600. I sold the Sigma 10-20 for $450. That is $30 and $50 off the Amazon list price for these items right now. You are not going to lose more than $100 for either of these lenses, and will lost $50 if you are good at selling.

The current Amazon price for the Sigma is $690. That is $60 more than the 10-22, and $240 more than the Sigma 10-20. You need to do more fact-checking.
And you are rude.
Rude for what? Disagreeing with you? I never and I'm not making any personal attacks towards you.

I'm sorry about the 'Plastic toy' thing ! Didn't mean this ! If you read the thread, the word 'toy' don't appear anywhere...what happened is I wrote this dum title just as a reminder because I was doing two things at the same time. When I got back to the thread, I forgot to change this dum 'plastic toy' title. So again, I apologize to everybody cause I did not mean to hurt anybody's feelings. Thank you.

"hogwash" is being rude. As for prices, where I live Canon 10-22 =
1449.90 while Sigma 12-24 = 1399.90.
Okay, my mistake. Obviously very different prices around the world. What's the price for the Sigma 10-20 in your area?

I said that your advice was hogwash. Which I still stand by - I think it's terrible advice to suggest a worse lens on the offchance of some future upgrade several years down the line, to save US$50, maybe US$100. But don't mistake disagreeing with your advice as an insult to yourself.

Anybody who knows about optics, IQ, distortion, flare control , PF & CA issues didn’t give your post a second glance. Metal barrels have zip to do with the final image. Photographers don’t use these things as weapons, they make pictures with them

You keep saying "worse"lens. Why do you think it is worse? A wee bit
less wideangle.
If you've ever used the 10mm lenses, there's much more than wee bit of difference. The Sigma 12-24 is a 19mm equivalent, compared to 16mm equivalent for either of the Sigma or Canon 10mm.
but actually better not worse for him, because he'd
be using the sweet central spot, cropping out the corners.
This is a myth that just because a lens is full-frame, it is automatically sharper or better than a crop lens. These tests are done on a crop body. Both Sigma 10-20 and Canon 10-22 not only produce higher resolution, but also have less chromatic abberations than the Sigma 12-24.

  • If you've ever used the 10mm lenses
  • Couldn't possibly have because I'm using FF.
  • This is a myth that just because a lens is full-frame, it is automatically sharper or...
  • I'm not saying that, I'm only saying that the not-so-good corners would be cropped out.
  • Both Sigma 10-20 and Canon 10-22 not only produce higher resolution, but also
  • Both are useless for me because I can't use them with my 5D. And I do believe that, with FF cameras becoming more affordable, cropped sensors will eventually disappear altogether.

Fat chance! 1.6X frame sensors are here to stay. They simply are too practical to go away in the next 15 or 20 years. In 15 or 20 years we will be more likely to have miniature cameras with even smaller sensors that provide higher image quality than 1.6X can provide today. In 1976 I thought we would all be moving about in personal jet packs by 2001, LOL!

"In 15 or 20 years we will be more likely to have miniature cameras with even smaller sensors"
  • You are forgetting that shallow DOF is not always a bad thing. So, smaller sensors for smaller photographers and larger sensors for larger photographers. I'll be using both - larger for pro work, smaller for family snapshots.

I'm not forgetting anything, I'm saying variety is a good thing, 1.6X sensors are not going away in the next 15-20 years.
