I photographed these snow geese from the shore of the East Pond of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Sanctuary in New York City. They will head out over the Atlantic and make land fall in south central New Jersey. Then on to Cape May NJ to rest up for the hop over the Delaware Bay. Just a small sample of the adventure they face as they head to the Gulf Coast and to Mexico.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

Morris,

One of my favorites of yours. Very artistic in its simplicity of composition and wonderful use of colors. Love it!

Nice picture Morris..

I like the silhouette effect it gives at the sunset.

Morris,

When I first saw it I could not adequately describe why I thought that your most recent post, “Into the Sunset” struck me as being exceptional. After watching the Philadelphia Flyers lose to the NY Rangers I picked up reading Bryan Peterson’s book, “Learning to see Creatively” where I had left off. The chapter I was reading is entitled, The Elements of Design.

There is a section in this chapter about “Shape”. The first sentence reads, “Shape is more fundamental than form, texture, or pattern because shape is the principle element of identification.”

The segment concludes with, “The silhouette is the purest of all shapes…”. So, it was this reading that I realized why I enjoyed your recent photo of the snow geese. It is a very strong example of shape in a very simple but direct way. Of course it was your experience and talent that was able to capture such a simple subject and turn it into an extraordinary photograph.

Thank you Rick,

Brian is sport on in regarding this. One must be very careful when working with simplicity to keep it simple. Multiple subjects in silhouette can get take the image out of simplicity, the fact that there very small allowed this to work.
