Camera Raw 4.2 update
September 14, 2007

This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe Photoshop CS3; Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0, and 5.0; and Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 software. Visit the Camera Raw page for a complete list of supported cameras.

Thank you for the advice. Did not read any lit. yet. I thought it would be the same as my 30D. I was wrong. Thanks again.

I don't think it does sRaw which is what the op was asking about.

Yes that is what I am talking about, the sRaw files. I just downloaded CS3 30 day trial and it won't open (greyed out) . Please help. It sees my old 30D .cr2 files fine. Is DPP the only program that will see it?

ACR does not yet do sRaw. We have to wait for the next update. Adobe has an update coming for leopard that might fix this too. There are also a few new cameras for this to work with.

CS2 does not support it (yet?), it stops with the 30D
CS3 has a downloadable update to the RAW support that will support it:

"The Photoshop Camera Raw 4.2 plug-in replaces the previous versions of the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in for After Effects CS3, Bridge CS3, Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended, Photoshop Elements 5.0 (Windows), Photoshop Elements 4.0 (Mac OS), and Premiere Elements 3.0."

Means, if ya got CS2 or older you might have to upgrade (arrrrgh, that's me!)

This is something I warned about in another thread. The least expensive option is to use the DPP RAW converter version that came with the camera if you don't want to upgrade to CS3 yet, which, presumably will have a 40D processor sometime soon. CS2 won't be capable of processing 40D RAW at all, I'm assuming. -- So, for 40D buyers, plan on using DPP or adding the cost of an upgrade or some other processor if you were thinking you could count on CS2 to process your RAW.

I have PS CS2 and I used the DNG converter to convert 40D CR2 files to DNG and then open it. Is there no easier way?

I find it incredible that Adobe do not upgrade CS2 for new RAWs....

I believe you can just do a batch conversion to dng then open. I don't think you're limited to converting one file at a time. (Grab a coffee while the computer does the work for you.)

Otherwise, for Adobe, upgrade to CS3 or Lightroom. (If you use PS a lot, CS3 is a very good upgrade from CS2 and earlier IMO.)
