D200 - six ISO 1600 images

I like the first and last photos the best. The last, with fill flash, looks very good to me, with good color and catch light in the eyes.

Nothing wrong with those. I love the last one. Dave

Some nice shots. Congratulations.
And yes, in the right hands D200 can do fine @ high iso as well...

I prefer one really good picture in a day over 10 bad ones in a second...

Beautiful kids in nice compositions with nice exposures.

The focus in almost every case seems to be on their jackets. They will be improved with focus on the eyes.

Nice shots, however ...

...unless you show the images at 100% size, it proves very little
about noise performance.

Cheers

I think these would make fine looking prints to hang on the wall (up to 8 x 10), which is what matters. You are correct in that the noise would be bad for poster size prints...

Really not much of a test (if it was intended to be). Taking a picture in good light at ISO 1600 is going to produce much better results than in terrible incandescent light. IMO, that's where the D200 isn't up to the task as much as the competition.

And what makes you think that it was good light? Or did you mean natural light? I would think he would dial it to ISO 1600 because the lighting situation dictated it.

Judging from the background and various other clues, it looks like good light that wouldn't require 1600, if even 400, for that matter.

Still, tough directional artificial light with lots of shadow... that's tough for the D200. Stuff like this isn't so difficult.

1/90 f5 1600 ISO is sort of low light.

You need to look at speed, focal length, f stop and 1600 to get the exposure is sort of low.
1/10 sec and iso 200 is sort of low light. Let along hand holding the camera.
