~~~ CTF Challenge 145 - Two in One ~~~

When I got back from vacation and found this new challenge I couldn't wait to start shooting. A few days later I'm still not sure what I should aim the camera at. It sounded so easy. No subject limitations, photoshop encouragement, how simple would that be? Well, nothing is simple for me I guess. I just can't figure out how to make an entry an image as a whole rather then two images slammed togther. Everything I put together is just that, two pictures put together. OK, I'm off to try some night shots.

P.S. Is it just me or is the discussion thread a little lighter than usual?

There's always a burst of energy in the first few days posting to the thread, making comments & saying this topic will be fun but then it seems to die in the bum:-)

Maybe it's just because we're all really old & get tired very quickly:-) I haven't seen JV around for ages either I hope our shots are not disappointing him:-)

I've been around. I'm just like everyone else though and kind of ran out of energy. The submissions are pretty decent so far, although there are a few people who really want this to be a composite challenge instead of a diptych challenge.

there are always people who want it to be something other than what it is. I bet if this was a free study, somebody would have something to complain :)

for some type of inspiration vs. just taking two picys of anything. I'm also quite busy with home improvements but the improvements are coming to an end (for this year). Hopefully something will catch my eye or enter my thoughts. I kinda feel like a mouse in a maze...not sure which way to turn.

..was not what you were after. (A diptych is literally a double picture, originally an alterpiece of a religious subject.)

So I have tried to relate the two images compositionally, which did not seem to be off topic from the description and rules. In fact, they seemed to point more to a "composite" than a diptych. But hey, rules are meant to be changed... and broken. :-)
 
could be a good subject. Before/after - during/after - contractors/owners etc. Could be interesting.
 
TV, It seems like everyone has different ideas of what photographic terms like "diptych" and "composite" mean. If you are refering your "road home" picture, it probably isn't considered a diptych by some definitions, and it probably is considered a composite by some definitions. Fuzzy terms aside, it does meet the four requirements and it is the kind of image I was hoping to see.

Under the picys you think are composites & not really dipthingys then we might get the idea. This is really new to most of us & we normally learn by the hosts comments.
Anyhow I'm enjoying meself:-)

Obviously the "before" pics" would be taken before eligible challenge dates and the "new" taken during so no cigar there :(

I got something in the back of my mind, but not sure how i can accomplish it....

Rod, your pics are good to go. Anyone who followed the four requirements is on-topic and anyone who didn't is off topic. But if you are really interested, here are the ones that I'd consider "composites" because they look like a single shot unless you inspect them carefully.

Eligible:
Twin Dance

Exhibition:
Evil Thought Bubble (before the border was added)
Anger

Pending:
Swimmer 2

Each of these is covered under the "distinct boundary" rule.

I will move the Pansies back in since I am short on Ideas.

Tried to get a nice shot of thick freeway traffic today. I was then going to U-turn (at the expense of getting to work late) and take the traffic the other way which is almost nothing. The pair would be called, "Oh to work north of where I live". Unfortunately, every time I would get a little space to make the shot out of the roadster (top down), a big van or pickup would force themselves into the space and block the shot. I guess it is hard to get this shot when you sit almost on the ground, even when you stick your arm up as high as you can reach.

...and her name is Lydia :) She is doing a wonderful job in this challenge. Personally, I liked all her entries here. Hope she sticks around.

Oh, and I'm glad, and sure Rod too, that she isn't a bloke, otherwise we'll be in deep trouble :)

as for me, well I'm just stumped! I too am finding it hard to not 'just take two picys of anything'. as well, weather and other unexpected things conspiring to keep me from getting out the camera this week....( and I won't even blame playing with the new Mac OS upgrade).
