Bye Bye, G2

Thanks, Leezah. I took my camera to a local camera shop that deals with Canon products, and they shipped it off to Canon to have it repaired. That could very well be the place, but I'd have to find out for sure. That phone number could come in handy, because I really need the camera by April 27th. It just doesn't seem like its going to make it.
If so, the number is 630-250-6500.--Chris (JeepCache) http://www.s5di.com/cshontz

Chris,
Did you win the game of horseshoes?

Jim Thomas
I took my beloved G2 to the camera shop today so they could ship it
to Canon and get it repaired. I suspect it will be weeks until I
see it again.

Isn't it funny how... the more you pay for something, and the more
conscious you are of its safety and condition, the more likely you
are to damage it?

I'm sure if I had walked next to a boiled pit of molten lava, my G2
would've jumped from my hands, and plummeted to its ultimate demise.

I spent a month running around taking pictures without a protective
carrying case. I thought, "Geez, I should really get a case for
this thing, or something is going to happen." Well, I went out and
got a padded carrying case, and until then, nothing happened!

Rest-assured, once it was in that padded carrying case, I started
dropping it, and lobbing errant horseshoes at it. Yes...
horseshoes. I can barely hit the opposite stake, and yet I scored
a ringer around my camera bag.

I didn't know whether I should take it to a camera shop, or an
automotive body shop. The failure of the camera wasn't
catastrophic. The flash simply stopped working, but the dented
exterior of the camera was much more impressive.

I don't have a point. I'm just sharing my misfortune. Please keep
your fingers crossed that the repair is quick and relatively
painless!

I just have to ask this question...How did the horseshoe hit the G2?
It was really nice out after work, so Jen and I decided to go over to the park to play horseshoes. Instinctively, I grabbed the G2 thinking how nice it'd be to get some pictures of my wife and myself having a good time playing horseshoes on a mild spring afternoon.

In the camera bag, we placed the camera behind a small barrier of railroad ties. In my gut, I was uncomfortable with that location for the camera, but I didn't act on it. Finally, I lobbed a horseshoe and it landed behind the barrier. Jen yelled over to me. "That was the camera!" ... and I replied, "You've got to be kidding me!" (i can't even hit the opposite stake) She insisted that the horseshoe had simply grazed the bag, but I was uneasy. I saw no more physical damage, but upon further inspection, I found out the flash didn't work.

I am more than aware of the folly of having placed the camera where I did while we were playing horseshoes. It was extremely poor judgement on my part, and I intend to be more careful in the future.

This picture was taken with the damaged camera:

I just got an S330 (the new Elph). I'll probably bypass the horseshoe test, but it would be quite challenging since it's such a small target. Probably take a rookie like me 20-25 attempts to hit it, although there is something to the theory about expensive things flying into lava pits. I figured the S330 would tide me over until the day Canon introduces the G2-based replacement for the Pro 90.

(If there isn't such a thing in the works, there should be.)
Now that my camera is temporarily absent, some grandiose scene,
much like the colorful setting of a Skittles commercial, is going
to unfold before me ... and where will my camera be?

It will be at Canon, because I lobbed a horseshoe at it. :)

Why do I see you sitting on a porch like a dog waiting for the mail
man Chris only to see your head dip down when he drives by.

The suspense is killing me. How does it end?!?

I sent in a 1V last year to NJ. They weren't really that helpful on the phone (toll call) and told me several conflicting stories. Just as I had given up all hope, suddenly it showed up and has worked fine ever since. It was only gone for a few weeks but it seemed like forever.

16 days have passed

$208.00 (US)

The salesperson at my camera shop said it usually takes them longer to get the quote out than it does to fix the camera. He says, "generally two weeks", but that isn't firm ... sometimes they get them back pretty quickly.

"Flash inoperable due to impact."--Chris (JeepCache) http://www.s5di.com/cshontz

I think Canon works kinda like God ..no one knows how they do things but things happen :-)

22 days have passed

It would be great if its ready on on or before the 26th, because I wanted it for an event on the 27th. They called with the repair quote on the 16th, so that gives them 10 days to repair and to ship. Doesn't seem likely.

Poor fellow. How are you managing to sleep without your G2?
I hope my G2 dosen't have to go in for repair for a while.
