Birthday Dinner - F40 pictures.

For dust prove, K10D is better, but some reported K100D has better noise control, but you need to check it in the Pentax DSLR forum.

According to the information in the reviews and forum, the 18-55mm kit lens is a decent lens, but I have not used it much. Sinan who has been posting here a lot had provided many information to me, search for his wonderful pictures in the Pentax DSLR forum.

I also wanted to buy the 17-70mm for its wider angle (25.5mm vs 27mm is a lot of difference) and longer reach (82.5mm vs 105mm).

If you want Field of View similar to our eyes, get the 30mm f1.4 lens. 50mm f1.4 is a tele like focal length, great for taking portraits in low light.

I am glad you like these pictures. The F40 is easy to use.

Congratualtion on your latest success in the Fujimug, sorry for not able to congratulate you individually. Wish that couple recovered now.

Thanks for the information. I am sure, I'll use it some day soon...!

I've posted a couple of Panny FZ50 portraits (flash) in the panny forum. I guess, I should be able to take such pictures with a DSLR without the flash, using a fast prime.

Those are nice flash portraits, with a DSLR you can make subtle adjustment of the flash to make them more natural, even in day light.

With a fast prime lens indoor you can of course take good portraits, but flash pictures will not be bad either, just different mood.

Sorry I have to stop now, because I just received a lot of order from relative to print family portraits for them. I just brought a dye sublimation photo printer, relatives love the results and are making a lot of order:-)

Nice pictures. The computer show pictures are reminiscent of similar pictures of your F30.
How does iso 400 & 800 of F30 compare with K100D?
What's your experience on K100D's white balance in indoor captures?

Well Danny I have some bad news for you I'm afraid - whatever full time job you are doing is the wrong one as you have clearly missed your calling in life - its clear to me now after viewing these fantastic photos that you should have been a food photographer and writer! :-)

Seriously, the photos are really great and a lot better than most that I've seen in cookery books.

You should post more of these kind of pics whenever you get a chance - I'd love to see them!

Best wishes,

Ian

yours look so much better than mine! :)

a nice bd meal, danny. i've had peking duck in peking but prefer roast pigeon or roast goose in HK. actually, i prefer to eat just about anything in this city of gastronomy.

Hi Danny,

I can't believe I missed this "food series". Nicely done and excellent commentary. Now I am hungry. 5:21am here and off to work. After looking at this....time to stop and get a big breakfast. Have a good week and best regards.

Mike

PS = Spicy baked tofu looks good. Is it really spicy?

The P & S can not compete with DSLR in portrait taking tasks, especially when competing with prime lens.
How does iso 400 & 800 of F30 compare with K100D?
No competition, DSLR wins hand down.
What's your experience on K100D's white balance in indoor captures?
In some reviews, they mention the poor results when shooting Jepg with K100D indoor without flash. F30 is better in Auto WB performance than some other DSLRs I have seen (Nikon D80 and D200) when shooting indoor JEPG non flash pictures, but not a problem when you are shooting RAW or JEPG with flash.

Not at the present moment, I am overweight by at least 15lbs (7kg), switching to food related job will definetly cause obesity. I hate wasting food (I asked for doggie bags most of the time when dinning out), after taking pictures, I will for sure eat all my photographic subjects.

Anyway. good suggestion, I have been thinking what should I do when I retire:p

By that time, I can do exercise after excessive eating, no worries about obesity. I can almost hear myself doing exercises in the future, "3 more, 2 more.... can't take it no more":p

The cook and F40 should take the 95% of the credits:-)

Too much Chinese food lately, will try some western food in the future.

for getting compliment from a food pictures master.

I always remember your wonderful food pictures especially the shrimp pics. This picture of steamed shrimp is much better than mine, my picture is just bigger in display size:-)

I was told by some of my friends that many restaurants in HK serve better Peking ducks than most restaurants in Peking.

Roast pigeon or roast goose are also my family favorites. I used to bring a roast pigeon home specially for my wife for her dinner enhancement.

by the name. I remember you like ToFu, I like ToFu too, my wife made very food, ToFu soup several days ago, with sweet corn, ToFu, pork, mushroom, taste very good, I had 2 bowls, normally I drink only 1 bowl of soup per meal.

It is now 6:40am, all of a sudden I missed KFC breakfast - scramble egg, I will eat my breakfast out today in KFC (KFC and McDonald are favorite places for breakfast in HK, soon we will be invaded by more Krispy Kreme, I guess. They served very good coffee here, I used to buy afternoon tea from McDonald, now from Krispy Kreme :-0)

your prvious 5 food pics.

I remember I was so impressed by those pictures that I spent time studying your composition, after that I dare to move closer to the food, instead of taking pictures of the whole disk. Yes, I learnt from you for better food pictures, what a wonderful forum this is. A great place to learn and to share.

Only concern for getting too close to the food was when I took picture of the baked port wine oysters, it was steaming, I worried about my brother getting a greasy F40:p

Again thank you for your kind words and sharing.
