Hi Everone,

I recently purchased the New FZ18. My decision in part was from all of the wonderful input and photos on this forum. Thank you all for that.
I am still leaning how to use it and learning better photo techniques.
I am having problems opening my Raw Files.
All the programs that I have are not recognizing them.
What program is everyone using to veiw and edit your Raw files for this camera?
Does anyone know if PSP X2 will recognize them?
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.
-Beth

Didn't you receive the SilkyPix Developer Studio 2.1 SE software when you bought the camera? SilkyPix is your RAW editor until PSP X2 updates their software. SilkyPix is probably better anyway.

Check out Corel's web site to find out whether they support the FZ-18.

You can use Silkypix as the other poster suggested, or Photoshop Elements or later versions of Photoshop with the Camera Raw plugin.

I use Photoshop CS with ACR 2.4 and the DNG converter. Photoshop CS3 can open the RAW files directly in ACR without requiring a conversion to DNG.

Wow.. thanks so much for the fast replys.

Maybe I am doing something wrong. I have tried using SilkyPix , and an older version of Photoshop. I downloaded the DNG plug in. These all didn't recognize my files.
I will try again though. Maybe my program settings are wrong. :-)
Thanks so much. -Beth

Thanks so much. I have been leaning towards buying Photo Shop CS2. But have been using Paint Shop Pro for so long, I am afraid of the change, not to mention the expence, but maybe I should take the plunge.
Everyone that uses Photo Shop swears by it.

The learning curve for CS2 can be steep. I'm a long time PSP user and I think X2 is a major improvement. The casual/prosumer user will be happier with X2, IMO. And if you know the PSP interface you're way ahead.

Thanks John that really helps.
I think the upgrade to X2 for approx $50.00 is better for me at the moment.
It looks like a real nice improvement.

Beth, the DNG converter is not a plugin. It is a standalone piece of software. Copy down your RAW files to your hard drive. Locate the files inside DNG converter and specify a location where you want to save the converted DNGs.

As for the RAW format from the FZ-18, Silkypix can open it without any prior conversion.

Thanks so much. I am trying to see if I can get things to work. I am also going to take a few more samples in Raw format now and try to see if my programs will recognize them. Maybe my first set of raw photos that I took got corrupted somehow.
I am such a Newbee :-)

1.1 doesn't recognize FZ18, but 1.2 does.

As a long time Photoshop user I cannot give enough praise to Lightroom. I haven't used any of the other programs mentioned here, but compared to Photoshop, Lightroom is a dream.

Is LIGHTROOM a full program ,a possible substitute for PS or PSP, and if so, how does it compare?
Thanks

Lightroon is a seperate program and it also works with Photoshop. It is an Adobe Product. It isn't a substiture for PSP or anything like that. PSP is made by Corel.
They are seperate companies, I believe.

I spoke with a professional photographer yesterday and he is drooling over it. LOL
But as far as everything it does, I am not sure.
I bet there are other out there that can elaborate on the program though.

Does this make sense? Does Lightroom work with Elements the way it works with Photoshop?

Also, how many here like Elements? What is it missing that Photoshop has? Can you do plug-ins with Elements?
