I am a amateur photographer.
I recently volunteered to do a photoshoot for one of my friends.

Someone very close to me told me that my pictures were trashy.
I can see seductive, but trashy no.

So give me your honest opinion.
(I know that opinions are subjective)

If my mum says she likes something I've done it doesn't really mean anything.

If my mum tells me something I've done is trashy - then it is.

Well, the first one is tame. The others with the spread open leg position even fully clothed would leave many to think trashy or some similar adjective. Not necessarily my opinion, but I can easily see it perceived that way.

Trashy? Well, it's in the eye of the beholder, I guess. All I see is a blurry car, and an overweight model with plastic breasts.

Why not ask yourself this--"How can I pose these women less provocatively and create a beautiful photograph that makes people say 'wow'?"

If you can use positioning, lighting, and the lens of the camera to portray beauty, and leave the suggestion of sexual attractiveness to the mind of the viewer, then you become a creator of photographs that others are less likely to describe as trash.

I am with the last poster... You can do better if you wish.

As for "trashy", an answer from me would require you describe trashy first. Do the models look trashy to me? Just a bit, particularly the image with a bra that is about to strangle that girl is sitting so high.

Do the poses look trashy? I don't think so. Dress those models on high-end, really well fitted clothing and change the muscle car by an Italian sedan, and they are not trashy at all.

I guess I am just saying that the context matters as much as the models, their cloth, the lighting... Too many factors to qualify the images in a fair way to you and those who took part of the shoot.

I don't know if any women have weighed in on this but as a woman the short answer is... yes.

That being said, there is not only a lot of room for interpretation in what 'trashy' means but also in what actually is 'trashy'.

I find this pictures do not accentuate your subjects' beauty but instead objectifies them.

The first one could have been a very nice but the key to being seductive is leaving a little somehting up to the imagination - which you seem to have done less and less of as the series progresses.
You asked for honest.

As a woman, I agree. The spread legged look is just screaming trash. I don't mind sexy, but objectification can be offensive and I for one am tired of seeing beautiful women portraying themselves this way.

However, that's my preference only and I certainly am not one to tell others what they should or should not do, like, or participate in.

As photographs, they are well done but you did miss the @ss in the camera shot that would typically accompany shots like these. I think you could do well with something a little more mysterious and understated. The guys here would probably disagree.

While I think the photos themselves are good, I do have to say I really don't like the crotch pose...it just does not leave much to the imagination. In MY opinion, look at Danial Diaz's photos...those to me are sexy, seductive and a bit racey, but not trashy in my opinion. I don't expect one to take photos like Daniel, but just look at how the women are more seductive with out being so totally exposed and saying "LOOK AT ME", which your models seem to do...not much left to the imagination.

I have to also agree with one other poster about the clothing....that white bra sticks out like a sore thumb, it screams "LOOK AT THESE". it's almost as if the models are trying way too hard.

Again, not to offend, but I don't like rap music, and when I see these photos I do think RAP Video....

Ultimately, I think it could have been done with better taste with the models, but that is just MY opinion as a female.

Hoochie? yes. The style of shooting and the props are not necessarily trashy - they're more hoochy'ish if that makes sense. Trash is in the eye of the beholder, however. Depending on the audience you could get one of many answers. Being that most people on here are probably caucasian males in their 40-60's you'll get a lot of "trash".

I personally don't find them particularly artful. The model look forcefully "seductive" like they are trying versus being. Depending on what you are shooting for audience wise this may or may not go over well.

Thanks for showing and keep up the good work.

BTW - just as someone pointed out in an earlier post "overweight" I see no over weight people in any of these pictures - again - in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you all for your C&C.
I plan on leaning more towards elegant and classy photos.

The point about what audience these were geared for was well taken.

These pics were aimed towards a 20-30 year old urban audience.
With different audiences you will get different responses.

well, here's my honest opinion...
  1. 1 is not trashy, but is rather boring and un-original (blur, glow and all)
on the other hand - #2,3 (don't see any difference) ARE most definitely trashy, which makes them rather special for me. They're quite shockingly distasteful, which is both unusual and interesting (don't know if that was your intention, but it doesn't really matter for me)

as for #4 - no, it doesn't quite reach the level of proper 'trashy', neither it is 'seductive' or artistic so...

Thanks for posting. Honest opinion, as requested, eh? :)

i think we have to start with the question: what kind of images were you trying to create?

a woman in hotpants with DDDs can be photographed to look elegant, smoldering, seductive, pensive, bookwormish, erotic, raw, and on and on. her photos can also be composed to look like they belong in an escort service ad.

you know ... it's all about light, composition, attire, attidude, working with a talented model, etc. i don't think the problem is so much with what your models are wearing - it's more that the photos are kind of harsh and stark. at the least, control your lighting and exposure, and pose her better, and you would have a different set of pix.

i am certainly not "offended" by your shots, but i wouldn't call them glamour photography either.

what were you going for?

This was my 1st photo shoot.
So I can't say I was going for a certain type of shot.

A buddy of mine was interested in using them for a calendar aimed towards a urban youth crowd.

I now know that before going to a shoot I need to determine in what direction I want to go in. (Poses, attire, audience it's geared for)

Just because they objectify women as sexual playthings, why would anyone think they're trashy?

the pics look slutty, is that what you mean by trashy? clearly you were going for slutty, which you achieved. what might make it look trashy are your models, which radiate a look of a local call girl and not that of a seductive beauty.
