I've been looking to purchase Sony's remote control (RM-DR1) but I can't find it anyplace online or in the Miami area where they have one in stock. There are half a dozen online stores that advertise it but they do not have it available.

Has Sony stopped making it? Is there a product recall? Does anyone know where to purchase one?

Try http://www.bhphoto.com yet? It might has in stock.

I got mine from sonystyle online. I used the $20 dollars you get from registering the camera towards the purchase. I don't know wether they still have them in stock but, it doesn't hurt to check.--Scott A. -----------F707

This is a bit off subject, but your post reminded me of why I hate my RM-DR1...

First: The cord is so stiff, it seems to be taking forever to loosen up. Why do I care? Because even the slightest motion while I'm holding the darned thing seems to move my camera.

Second: All I can do is turn the camera on/off, zoom and take a shot. Why couldn't Sony have seen the opportunity to put a JogDial on this thing!? I hate having to jostle my setup to change my camera settings. The nerve!

Anyway - I guess it's better than nothing at all.

Thanks KD, I called B&H and they said they "finally got it in stock," so I ordered it.

By the way, just where does the remote plug into?

Jim

It plug into the same place where the flash cord goes in, right hand side, top of the lens, if you are using the flash then you have to plug in on the hole available on the flash.

Eric, normally I don't respond to this type of post but yours is amusing.
1 where do you store your remote? In the refridgerator?

2 Did you not research before you purchased? Wise to know what you're buying prior rather than complaining after.

Nothing personal just some observations.

glen,

1) my remote is used quite often and is quite warm

2) i did research, but isn't a guy allowed to gripe about a product falling short of it's potential?

sincerely,
erik

Eric,

Maybe it was the word hate that I found amusing. Perhaps you really meant disappointed?

glen

Yes, I also ordered from B&H right after KD's post. Thanks.

You can't get it from SonyStyle anymore -- it's been discontinued. I tried to use my $20 coupon (which expires in 2 days) to buy it yesterday and found this out.

Anyone know why it's been discontinued? Will an upgraded replacement be made available? I remember a thread which indicated problems with the remote if it was plugged in when the camera was turned on.

Anyone know a way to homebrew a remote control? Shutter release and zoom functions would be on my short list.

---John

If you need a tripod AND need to spend that 20 bucks credit, you could get Sony's tripod w/ remote control. Get that 680 version. I had 580 version and it was a little short for me so I sold to a friend of mine.

Oh no! B&H called me and said that my order was a mistake and that they did not have it in stock but would have it in a couple of weeks. I cancelled the order. Now I'm back to square one.

Does anyone know who has it in stock, today?

John,

I'm not sure it's discontinued. Someone wrote on an earlier thread (do a search on the remote) that Sony's online store somehow sends a certain message (ie, "disactivated/no longer available") that gives the impression it's discontinued when they're merely backordered. He said that other items previously offered the same message and were later available again.

Also, the problem Pablo had with his remote might have been a fluke of some kind because others have not reported the same problem.

I just received mine from ecost.com and will report if I have any problems.

Something strange appears to be happening with this remote. Whether it's a product recall, I don't know, but I cannot find it anywhere. I called ecost and many others but none of them have it in stock. B&H claimed to have it so I ordered it, but they called back 2 days later and said it was a mistake and they'd have to back order it. I cancelled the order. Now I'm right where I started.

I'd appreciate it if anybody can tell me where there's a store which has this remote in stock.
