Mark,

Im aware of the tiffen, canon, and the lensmate adapters. Any particular reason you went with the tiffen vs the others?

I have to get one soon. I was leaning towards the lensmate because it is available in champagne, the others to my knowledge are black.

Hi There

Well I have the black G2 so for me its perfect

I have read a few reviews on the lens mate and yes it does come in champagne I dont think there is any difference between the two to be honest after all its just an adapter, the tiffen is cheaper thats all

Get one though it does guard the lens

I am planning to get the Tiffen adapter also, from bugeyedigital.com - is that where you got yours? They also sell a 2X telephoto for the G2 for $79.95. I much prefer a 2X over Canon's offering of a 1.5 X. Does anyone have any experience with this Tiffen MegaPlus 2X telephoto lens?

Also, can I get the adapter and lens in champagne? Where.
Thanks!

Gus,

I bought the Tiffen 2X Telephoto and wide angle lenses for my G1 a couple months ago. You get 6X power at full zoom with the telephoto and the wide angle gives you a nice increase in your field of view. They came with the 43mm to 49mm adaptor. I recently obtained a Hoya 67mm UV filter to fit the lenses which I highly recommend to protect the lens and to cut sun glare when shooting towards the sun. I'm very happy with both lenses.

If an image shows up here it's of a shuttle launch from a couple months ago taken with the Tiffen 2X from Tampa, 125 miles away from the launch at Cape Kennedy.

Vance,

I noticed some vinetteing in your photos. Are you using the lensmate with the tiffen 2x? I was thinking about getting this lens as well. I also found out that Tiffen is about 500ft. around the corner from where I work and they have an outlet center. I have to check out what they have.

Scott,

After reading your message I decided to take some photos of our backyard to see if the vin shadows showed up at full zoom with the Tiffen 2X during daylight (about 8:00 am eastern time). If the link below works it will take you to the Sendpix site and you'll see 4 thumbnails which you can click on to enlarge. You can click on the enlarged photo again to get another larger size. Starting at the left the first photo should be at full zoom with the 2X lens, the next is at full zoom without the 2X, the next is no zoom regular wide angle and the last is the Tiffen wide angle. You'll see some vin in the upper left corner on the first photo taken with the 2X. I'll have to take more photos in different light conditions to see if the vin is always there with the 2X. The Shuttle photos were taken about 6:00 am when the sky was essentially black. When there was a sudden news flash about the Shuttle about to launch I grabbed the G1 and the 2X and ran outside as I was screwing the lens on and suddenly a ball of light appeared over the neighbor's roof and I started to snap pictures. I have no idea what the settings were but I thought I was at full zoom but may not have been and thus the vin effect or perhaps it's also possible that the nature of the light in these conditions with this lens and the Tiffen adapter causes the vin. Don't know.
