DPReview and journalistic integrity.

As I stated several months ago. Phil will never again have a first hands on from Olympus.

Until after the fact.

And please note I said "E-3" the "e-33" was a typo error. 10 months ago.

I have had the E-3 in hand for nearly 6 months now with the typical beta upgrades and glass. Side by side with what the best of C and N bodies and glass have to offer at this point in time.

Oly, wins on "speed" of focus

Oly, wins on IS

But the best part "IMAGE QUALITY" at all ISO.

Oh, Dust reduction? What manufacturer can out state Oly?

And I now retire my short lived Pentax K-10D, and wow that is a great photography tool. But I will keep the glass and body in my setup for backup.

As far as journalistic "Integrity" that is for Phil to decide, he holds the fate of this site in his own hands. If he is influenced by high powers then that will be immediately noticed by the viewers of this website.

“Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.”

Sincerely,

James Bradley.

It was stipulated with Oly that I not post here "until the E-3 was released"

Man Oh man, you all are in for a dose of "reality"

First, journalism and reviewing are not the same thing.

Second, "corruption" would be if the content of a review were affected by commercial pressures. I see no sign that this has ever been the case with DPR.

Third, it is clear that Phil would have liked to produce a preview (as IR did) of the E-3, and is unhappy that a competitor site was able to do so because it was in fact given a camera (clearly with very beta firmware, since "at this point we can't comment on image quality, because what we saw wasn't final"). He nonetheless has every right to be peeved with Olympus for privileging a competitor site. I'd be very unhappy if I were him.

Fourth, Olympus is making some big claims for this camera in regard to AF speed and IS, that may be difficult to substantiate with the current pre-production model.

And finally, ask yourself where is the review (or preview) of the Canon 1DMIII, the flagship pro camera (the 1Ds being a specialty item), for instance? We don't know about that story either.

Cheers, John

...to produce ANY reviews, unless his arrangement with Amazon.com requires him to do so. It's his fricken site. He's not a journalist. He's not reporting on news that impacts society, politics, or anything else of any REAL importance. He's reviewing cameras, for goodnes sakes.

The fact is that Oly's a small player in the DSLR market. Any owner of a site like this one would be brainless to not place a priority on reviewing cameras that the large majority of his or her viewership are interested in. If the Oly marketing department is so frackin' brainless that they won't provide the owner of the Internet's most popular digital photography website a sample of their flagship DSLR to preview prior to their big launch announcement, then that site owner has every justification to place his priorities elsewhere. He'd be foolish not to.

Wrong, nice attempt to "CYOA" It was clear that Phil was being scrutinized by the powers that be.

Enough said, lets focus on "photography" I can go to the pub for for a p!ss match.

E-510 is out a while ago and it beats the heck out of it's competition - NO review ever since!
Dpreview could not get one, right? It is a joke.

I owned many other cameras - nikon, canon, sony, oly - and this one is extremely good, seing the price performance it's even better but here the 510 is ignored. Cameras came out way after the 510 already have reviews.

I never liked dictatorships and this is getting into that direction.
Even if you own a site you do owe to the readers to be fair. If you can show a
D1 M3 right away you can show a lot less expensive 510.

The reasons why dpreview did not do one, I - as a reader - do not care.

For me it does not matter if Oly sent one for free, or not, if they lended one or not, if dpreview had to buy one (this site can afford it)

I am here to read the news and reviews. I TRUST in the site so for my trust I can expect fair reviews. But if I don't get one there is NO trust either.

The 510 hasn't got any kind of review so dpreview is no more a decent information provider for me. There are other sites. more and more every day, even if it's one the biggest now... don't worry, all empires came and gone :)

DPReview is Journalism? When did they tell you so?
If DPReview consider a
camera important enough to be reviewed
Then, it seems that they DON'T consider it important enough to be reviewed.

Enough for your little crusade?

And with Olympus capturing like 5% of the market, boo-hoo!
If that didn't sound troll-ish then I don't know what does.

Anyhow, dpr isn't the media, but their excuse for not reviewing the E400 is BS....They absolutely are obligated to send it back if they don't do a review, why should they get a free camera. This is after all being played out to be a "I do for you you do for me" type situation.

Id not be sending them a 1,700 dollar camera and the new lenses either, why when I could give it to another site. DPR isnt the be all end all and if oly thought their sales would be that hurt; they wouldn't have withheld.

who knows, maybe they will be sending a camera. But lets not act like it isn't that big a deal if oly gets burned when they send a camera and get no review.

I do unto others, what they have done to me

Phil was told that Tokyo had decided he would not be given a camera to produce a preview for the launch date, yet Imaging Resource was given one.

Looks to me that Oly did not want DPR coverage beyond their press release. Their decision, for better or worse, but you can hardly blame Phil.

this is not only a simple report anymore.

ppl are here to read the reviews and they base their purchase decisions on what they read here.

so at the end dpreview not only provide news but now they are responsible to be fair and show every camera possible.

the e-510 is out a long time ago so do not tell me that they had no chance to review it when other sites did it right away - months ago.
if ppl trust in this site the site owes them this much.

it is not stated on the front page that we are only review cameras we like or brands who place ads on the site and or help us financially to carry this site...

if you start something do it right.
