5D --- Perhaps I should take the jump now?

......... and the 5D is in my hands now. I got it Thursday. I have the 20D and had the 30D (just sold it two days ago) and wanted to get a full-frame camera. (I actually prefer the way my 20D meters light and focuses as compared to my 30D. Perhaps this difference is more between my individual cameras. Just thought I'd mention this as to why I sold my 30D instead of my 20D.)

I got an excellent deal on a mint 5D with the Canon battery grip plus several spare batteries. Thanks so much, PT!

I have only had the chance to take shots around the house just to get a feel but will be trying it out this weekend and throughout this week. But even with the shots around the house, I am getting a sense of what some others have said about the 5D: shots taken with it have a certain "pop" to them.

The lenses I have now feel like new lenses given that I have gone from cameras with a crop factor to a full-frame camera. I am liking my 24-105mm L lens even more now. I always liked it but now that I am finding it even more useful since now the wide end of it now actually offers a wide view.

I am looking forward to really givng this camera a workout this weekend. I am shooting a wedding this Friday night so the timing is just great.

I wanted to thank PT again as well as to thank others here for the advice that others have given. I thought about waiting for the 5D replacement but thought it more useful to get the 5D and get used to the handling. I could always upgrade down the road (should I really feel compelled to do so) and the 5D could become the backup camera.

Thanks again to all.

Jimmy

Jimmy:

Glad you are enjoying the camera. I miss it, but I'm glad it is in your able hands.

It was a pleasure dealing with you and the email you sent expressing appreciation was (borrowing from VISA) "priceless". I tried to respond, but for some reason my response email wouldn't go through.

I know you will do great things with the camera.

I know that Jimmy already took the jump and purchased the 5d w/24-105 lens. I was looking at the price of the same setup at Dell which is $2,970 and one could buy a 10% discount coupon for about $3 on Ebay:

Applying the 10% Dell coupon will reduce the total cost (10%) with the 24-105mm to $2,673 which seems like a incredible price considering what it would have cost a few months ago.

The dell coupon won't stack on top of the already discounted price of 2,970. Sometimes dell has coupons which stack but I don't think there are any at this time.

I just stumbled upon this thread, and I too am in the same boat. Jimmy, where did you get yours from. I am tempted to grab the 2970 deal from Dell, bu i sounds like you did better.
