Get CANTO CUMULUS,which is a great database for your pictures.

Im sure you will be playing with your computer till 4 in the morning, like most of us do from time to time.

Regards

Congratulations!

Roxio "Toast" is a great program for burning CDs, but did you know that you can burn right from os X? Just put whatever you want to burn into a folder and then under File you'll see Burn Disk, that's it. (I'm assuming you have the cd burner in your system).

As for cataloging, I use iView Multi-media, you can download and try it for free. Great program.

Feel free to write me with any general Mac questions, I'd be happy to help you get up and running. You're going to love it.

Not alot of program are ready for OS X.

Photoshop 7, although announced, is still only available in a unsteady beta version.

iPhoto is too limiting.

Mircosoft Office X is good, as is Appleworks.

Now Contact/Up-to-Date & recently Palm Desktop are also good, although Now doesn't sync with the Palm yet.

I've been using iView Media Pro in OS 9.2 because it is buggy in OS X.

Although I work in OS X often & really like it, I reboot to OS 9.2 constantly.

Congrats! I agree with George. Toast and iView media pro. A really great FREE utility is the Palm Desktop. Great Calender, Address book, ect. Head over to Versiontracker.com and click on the OS X tab to find lots of OS X apps. Also, macintouch.com, macfixit.com and maccentral.com will keep you pretty up to date with software, ect.
Have fun, I'm jelous.

PS. Roxio Toast Titanium for burning. Make sure to download the updates.

Which reminds me of one of my favorite Mac OS programs. "Software Update".

Luis,

If you like those PC only programs soooo much, why did you
get a Mac? ...

Oh, I get it ... I knew these 3 Macs would teach me a thing or two.

I'm a core unix user. but I do like to do photo editing and my choices were:

pjotoshop 3 for mac under an imac emulator for linux .... NO
photoshop 6 under wine...unstable and not realy works...NO

GIMP... while realy good i'm used to PS and using GIMP is not comtoble for me..... NO.

So i had only one chioce and is WIN2K....I'm not the type of person ho likes to reboot every time. So i'm stuck with w2k on ly desktop.

I'm getting a MAC because IT's Unix (bsd) with is realy important for me. and because is a mainstream of so i will be able to run all of my favorite unix aps and most of the comercial apps (IE, Office iug, photoshop, ilustrator, corel... etc).

I'm a programer and only do graphics for fun. So for my job I have my Sparcs and a Dell Latitude 8100.

I do have windows! and i managed to get out of it for several years but now i was suck with if for photo editing.

Hi Luis,

Nobody has mentioned printing, so you may want to have a look at ImageBuddy. http://www.kepmad.com/
It has a great many options particually for contact sheets and photo layouts.
Enjoy your Mac.

Well ... sorry to hear you don't like rebooting .. 'cause you'll have to if you want to use OSX . at the moment there is not much out there that is trully OSX ready. and the OS9.x is much less reliable than many would want you to think

I have run OSX as my primary OS for about 3 months now. I almost never reboot into OS9. Most of the apps I use are ready for X with the exception of Photoshop and that I run in Classic mode so there is no need to reboot. The X version of PS should be out soon and then I can trash OS9 completely.

I got my MAC @ Ebay it's a G4 dual 450MHZ I got it for 1024 usd!. I think is a realy good deal if you think that a dual 1G is arround 3k! I think the 450MP will do if I put 1.5G of ram on it :)

Have to disagree with both statements. I have almost completely stopped needing to use OS9. Only Quark takes me back at this time and it runs pretty well in Classic mode. I have been beta testing PS 7 in OSX since December. It is great and will be amazing when released.

As far as stability, I run in 10.1.3 all day, every day. I can't remember the last time I had to reboot because of a crash. It just doesn't happen. At some point, I have all OS X internet apps running, PS 7 and Classic mode. I switch back and forth confidently that the system will stay stable. It does.

Go for it.
