I am about to make a viewer for the Panasonic specific EXIF information but I am curious if there is already such a thing. If yes, then I don't need to waste my time but otherwise I will spend 2-3 hours to do it because I am sure it will be useful. So if anyone know such a program, please tell me :)

I suppose all photo viewer are reading and displaying exif (not depending from which camera). I am using IrfanView and Adobe Photoshop Album and both do it.

I know there are hundreds of programs but they do not display Panasonic info like shooting mode - iISO, simple mode, scenes, etc. That's what I am talking about.

I'd be interested if you want to produce one...How would you expect to incorporate into something like a general picture viewer like Xp's picture and Fax viewer...or even "Windows explorer"....would be good to hover with mouse over displayed thumbnail and get complete exif...

The only program I know personaly is PSE organiser that gives a reasonable amount of data on camera details....if you could make something better than this...then would be great....

I think about a simple and nice PHP based library. I can also put a sample gallery script that shows thumbs and EXIF + Pana info under every picture.

Well, Irfan displays mode and even scene.

Opanda does an excellent job - even captures sharpness saturation and contrast, but not NR. Works for browser images also, which is convenient

I use http://www.photome.de/ for all my exif viewing: it is free and it's exif / iptc database for decoding makernotes is updated more less weekly with tiny packages downloadable directly from the program... it's the most complete package i've ever seen, try it ;) it even shows the af point over the image if the camera supports it... try it, it's really the best thing I've ever used :) and yes, it reads all fz18 exif data included makernotes, and translates them (for exaple under af mode you don't see a number, you see "one zone AF high speed" ^ ^)

PS Sorry, replied the wrong message

Astounding. Thanks. BTW, you can install a browser plugin via the Settings menu once you launch the application, and it even has a launch button for Irfanview

Photome seems like a great tool but I can not get it to integrate with explorer .....displays an error and says to try later.

To the original poster a tool that works like opanda Iexif but included all the info of photome could be very useful.

That is just a simple Right click.....and then the exif and perhaps editable to fit user preference.

Just trying to learn and it's slow going!

I had a deeper look into photome and found several "bugs" in their Pana EXIF interpretation but still they made an excellent reader.

If I remeber correctly, the author happily accepts help in solving this kind of problems :) (that's the reason there are so many updates ;) a lot of people is helping complete the exif database, but I find it's already hard to beat))

If you've time, look at the photome forums or check the "help wanted" link on the page: maybe you can help him address these issues you found :)

One thing that bugs me is the fact that if you view the RAW exif data, you can see the focal length of the shot while you can't see that data when viewing jpeg exif data in the Panny "PhotoFun' viewer and many others. If you write an program, include focal length data too.

The "Shadow" tool in SilkyPix requires the 'photo angle' of the picture. The 'photo angle' can be found on various 'charts' on the web, but I don't see why it couldn't be included in the Exif data too.

Just because the are lots of other Exif data viewers out there, that doesn't mean that you can't produce a better one:)

First of all thank you for photome link , very usefull (even beter than opanda ).

I have a question :

In the camera (mine is FZ18 ) one often can tag a photo with a name.
Never saw that tag in the exif data .

Is there way to export it when for example importing photo to your PC ?

Or is this information then lost forever ?

Picasa shows the shutter speed, focal length, iso, and aperture on its histogram panel.
