5 Konica pancakes on Ebay

I bought one. So there are only 4 left. I hope this one can be
changed for 4/3 cameras. I was confused about the description as "AE"
instead of "AR".
That is an AR. AE stand for the Automatic setting on the lens that changes the aperture.

Stay Well,

Thanks a lot, Brian.

You got a nice combo. I am surprised that the focusing/aperture mark is near the top of the lens. I thought the position would be way down on the side.
Two more questions:
Is the distance reading correct, or can it be adjusted to be correct?

Does the name "pancake" apply for this lens, or only for the very flat lenses from Pentax?
Thanks and greetings, Herbert

All of my conversions have the scale at the top, where it should be. This is the best conversion I've seen so far, by the way... by Pete Hanson :
http://www.snaar.co.uk/lenses/index.html

Scroll to the bottom of that page for the conversion - and note how Pete adds a shim behind the bayonet flange to make the lens focus correctily to infinity.

Kind Regards

I've been trying to get one of these desperately but they keep on selling for $50+.

Users here say they picked theirs up for $12 bucks. How the heck did anyone manage that?

I just bid on one with a severely bent filter ring and had my sniper software set up, and somebody still bid higher than my max of $35.

Even damaged lenses go for at least $35.........

What did you pick yours up for? What's reasonable?

I think it's likely that you're bidding against quite a few people here; these lenses have become rather popular since Brian and the others started converting them and I imagine that's pushing up the price.

I've got a rather dented one myself that I bought in a local car boot sale. You're probably better off looking in flea makets / garage sales / yard sales etc - ebay is usually quite pricey for this sort of thing...

Hi gwillys,

the 40mm Hexanon f1.8, with a 1.5mm spacer ring ends up being about 82mm equivalent focal length... how about that Tessar with the adapter you use? does it focus to infinity? and what's the minimum focusing distance?

I think the 40mm f1.8 is more practical for my needs... it's probably the most versatile prime lens I've got.

Kind Regards

Brian

You seem to be the expert on this lens here! I just bought one on ebay, but I was wondering if you'd take a look and tell me if it's authentic? Here's the link:

http://cm.ebay.com/cm/ck/1065-29392-2357-0?uid=306299665&site=0&ver=EOIBSA080805&lk=ViewItem&Item=220156680079

Quote this message if the link is blocked. It's probably the real thing, this person is selling a modest number of photographic kit, and supplied good photos that seem to show the genuine article. I guess all I have to do is find a way to mount it now.

Much obliged if you do, okay if you don't. Take care.

No front/end caps... if he's acquired several of these to sell, then I'm sure he can find a couple of caps for you (can't hurt to ask).

If not, I'm sure you can source them both elsewhere...

Congratulations, it's a cracking lens for 4/3rds - very versatile, hyper compact, super sharp at f2.8 and above and great for f1.8 low light shooting.

Kind Regards

Brian

Brian, i dont want to rain on your parade or anything, but i have a number of lenses faster and sharper than the hex 40. and considering it has poor bokeh, along with most pancake lenses, i dont see the purpose in bothering with a bubblegum hack. other than for fun or novelty, there are better lenses to be had for 50+ bucks... but they were interesting at 8 or 12 dollars. i'd like to suggest you get a zeiss c/y 50mm f1.7 and adaptor and compare it to your hex 40. then after a while, the hex 40 price will drop back to where it should be, lol.

Unlike the Tessar, I expect the Hexanon to be nice and perfectly sharp at f=2.8. The Tessar is a more simple design with a reputation of excellent sharpness - except for f=2.8.

I just acquiered a Hexanon, and I am looking forward to doing my version of the bubblegum work. I am especially fond of the 40mm focal length. I'll let you know the results.
