I agree that the more you pay for something, the more you want to baby it however I am also of the opinion that things are made for us to USE so I USE my cameras and if they happen to get damaged, I feel bad but get them repaired or replaced. Its the price you pay for playing the game whether its photography or sports whatever, nothing in this life is cheap anymore.
I took my beloved G2 to the camera shop today so they could ship it
to Canon and get it repaired. I suspect it will be weeks until I
see it again.
Isn't it funny how... the more you pay for something, and the more
conscious you are of its safety and condition, the more likely you
are to damage it?
I'm sure if I had walked next to a boiled pit of molten lava, my G2
would've jumped from my hands, and plummeted to its ultimate demise.
I spent a month running around taking pictures without a protective
carrying case. I thought, "Geez, I should really get a case for
this thing, or something is going to happen." Well, I went out and
got a padded carrying case, and until then, nothing happened!
Rest-assured, once it was in that padded carrying case, I started
dropping it, and lobbing errant horseshoes at it. Yes...
horseshoes. I can barely hit the opposite stake, and yet I scored
a ringer around my camera bag.
I didn't know whether I should take it to a camera shop, or an
automotive body shop. The failure of the camera wasn't
catastrophic. The flash simply stopped working, but the dented
exterior of the camera was much more impressive.
I don't have a point. I'm just sharing my misfortune. Please keep
your fingers crossed that the repair is quick and relatively
painless!
