FZ18 Speed?

I'm just back from the store playing around with the FZ18. Unfortunately there was no SD-Card in the camera, so the camera only used the small internal memory. I had the feeling this memory is very slow! Is it only the internal memory (so that

saving pictures to a SD card is faster) or is image processing that slow in general?
 
I wouldn't place too much importance on demo cameras that have been played around with by other customers. For example, someone may have set the thing to "Auto Bracketing," and so every shot would take 3X a normal shot. I've been quite impressed with the camera's speed, both in shot-shot timing, shutter lag, startup.

Jpeg shot to shot time is very fast, RAW is also very fast (2 seconds or less depending on settings and speed of SD card bought)

in unlimited Burst mode (Jpeg) I can take 2 shots every second.

PS: My above results are tested using a Sandisk Extreme III 2Gb SD card
 
It's cat quick to focus and shoot for a PS. JPEG storage is very quick (or buffered). RAW storage takes about 2 seconds--a slight pause--using a 2 GB Sandisk Ultra III.

The only way to slow it down is trying to focus with low light or no contrast/lines like most cameras. It will hunt for a focus in the same conditions that make other cameras go crazy. That's just physics.

I have to say I was suprised at how fast this camera is....

The store demo must have a problem.

The internal memory in the TZ2/3 is very slow. With a good card it is much faster.
 
It is definitely possible that the demo cam was not ok.

The slow speed was especially noticable after burst shots of 3 pics. It took up to 1 minute to store the pics and the cam was not responding to anything during that time. If the timings of the FZ8 are comparable it should take only a couple of seconds with a fast card, am I right?
 
I've found the FZ18 to be QUICk. Very fast in all aspects. TOO fast for the style I used to shoot in (burst on at all times). My old UZI was left on burst and I could quickly get off one shot without too much trouble. The FZ take's 'em so fast I can no longer do this, it fires off multiples too quickly. ;)

get a fast card. The internal memory is only for emergencies (full card, and a big foot appears around the tree in front of you...)

Well, that's good to hear! Thank you all.

The slow internal memory was all I didn't like while playing around with it in
the store, but doesn't matter because I have already fast cards.
Everything else (especially handling and weight) was great.
