Hi - I want to post a Reflection taken with my f707. How do I insert the photo into the posting? Copy-Paste doesn't seem supported.

thanks!

Dale

The best way is to post them on the web somewhere like pbase.com

then on a smaller than original version, say medium or large, right click on your image. Go down the little menu to properties, and click it. That should bring up a box that shows the address or URL (among other things). Highlight it, copy it, and then come back to dpreview.com In the body of your message, paste that address (URL), and viola! Your pick will apprear! Click the preview button to see if you have done this correctly before you post!

Thanks,

Eric

Don't forget to add .jpg at the end of the URL from PBase.

I really did search all the forums and did not find instructions on
this. Nor in FAQ for dpReview. I thought that was a bit odd since
posting a photo is such an integral part of the board.

To tell you the truth, I didn't find instructions on it in your FAQ
link below either.
The instructions are easily found in both places. Click rules/help here, or just read the isntructions when you click new post.

I don't know how to make things any easier to find in my FAQ.

Did you actually look?

Why, yes I did look. And thanks for your tone. Your site has 87 items regarding digital photography. I suppose you might have made it easier by actually pointing out WHICH of the 87 I should hunt it down in. thank goodness the tone of Sony Talk is more positive than yours and other responses were more specific.

You know it really was quite an innocent question. I did do a search on the forums. I did scan your 87 items. Forgive me for not meeting your lofty standards. Talk about self-righteousness.....

Use search (ctrl-f in Explorer) inside of a web page that you think
might have useful information for you, e.g., the FAQ.

You can also search this site for the dozen or so threads on
precisely your question.

Thank goodness everybody doesn't have your combination of laziness
and self-righteousness...

You did a search of the forums?

I typed the subject line of your message into the search engine and got a ton of relevant hits.

In fact, "embed photo," "insert photo," paste photo," etc., etc. all return relevant hits.

Why am I picking on you? I don't think you're telling the truth. I don't think you read the FAQ. I don't think you read the instructions on this site and I don't think you searched the forum. Nobody could be so inept as to do all of these things and never see any information on how to link pictures.

It's one thing to overlook the obvious or ask stupid questions; everybody does it from time to time. Lots of people are disoriented on their first visit here. Fine. We point them to the right resources and they get into the swim of things. It's another thing to start lying about what you've actually done or to resent that you're expected to show a modicum of initiative in following up on the advice you're offered. Sheesh...

Well, actually I am new here and had a hard time of it myself until another more experienced poster was kind enough to help me without the attitude.

Looks like you've got the basics down. Here is another post that may be of help:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1009&message=1082184

Just remember a couple of extra things:

1) Use the PREVIEW button whenever you have embedded an image, as this will help you make sure you've got the right image in your post and that the post will actually work

2) Try to use images that fit into the message window without scrolling. For example, the widest image that will fit without scrolling is 500 pixels wide. pbase gives you a Medium image size of 400 pixels, so this should work well. ImageStation gives you a medium image size of 480 pixels wide, etc.

3) In the forum here, we enjoy seeing good pics taken with Sony cameras. But if the image is simply one of your favorite dog, flower, bug, etc., it may find a better home in the Samples & Galleries Forum. Picture here tend to do better and get more responses if you're trying to illustrate a problem or have a question about how to use a digital camera. Not a set rule, but it just helps to know the history of the forum and what tends to work. This is a request made by Phil and mentioned in his recommendations for forum posts with images.

4) Similar to #2, please, please, please don't post the original size image of many megapixels. However, feel free to LINK to you original images by placing the image URL into your post, and then IMMEDIATELY following this address with a semicolon ( ; ). Again, use the PREVIEW button to make sure it all works properly.

5) If replying to a message that contains an image, it is helpful to remember to delete the image URL from your reply. There is usually no need to repeat the image again as we've seen it already in the first post. Not everyone here has broadband modems, and so the dial-up folks can greatly use our cooperation.
Thanks! I think I 've got it now! Your comments on the photo are
welcome.

Ulysses - this thread is over 2 months old, so hopefully they have figured things out by now.

It got bumped to the top because some guy came across it in a search and decided to flame me because he didn't like the attitude I took with the original poster (dbargen), who claimed to have done a search, read the instructions, and read my FAQ, but still failed to find any information on how to post pictures.

Mind you, the problem was not one of needing clarification. He said that he was unable to find any information on the topic. I guess I have an "attitude" for getting impatient with such characters...

It was some "gal". =) Sorry I could not resist.

BTW, if you are the originator of the FAQ, you have a bit of a good reason for being a bit impatient. It's an AWESOME site. It must have taken a long time to put that together! I have benefited a lot from it.

Thank you for sharing it here.
