Hi.
I am so happy I had the opportunity of buying the last F31fd here in Croatia.
It cost me 1400 kunas (260 USD, 191 EURO), which is 30 % less than

F40fd and 50 % less than the new F50fd that will be selling for 530 USD (380 EURO) when it hits the stores next week.

So, don't lose your hope.
There must be more F31fd in stock...

And remember, F30/31 were the only digicams EVER that performed nicely when compared to an dSLR: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/FujifilmF31fd/page15.asp

Congrats Tom,

The F31 is truly the last of a breed, starting with the F10. I did the same and bought an F31 as a backup to my F30. You will love the way it performs.

Best regards,
Mike

The f31 is still available here in Japan, but at quite a premium. A much better buy is the current limited stock sale of F30s at Yodobashi, about US $155.00 (one per customer).

So could it be that the F31fd is/was an expensive camera for Fuji to manufacture?

I bought mine from Amazon UK a few months ago (then priced at £135), and was stunned at the image quality, almost better than my Nikon D2h and very similar to my D200.
A real digital 'classic'.

The review here on DPR said that the F31fd was identical to the F30 except for the addition of facial detection (the "fd" part) and IR communication capability, neither of which has any specific relation to image quality, so I chose the older f30 (about 1/2 the price of the f31fd here in Japan).

Both seem to be hard to find here in Japan, tho. I went into Yodobashi (West Shinjuku) tonight and could't find anything on display older than the f40 or was it f50. The turnover is so rapid and profit line so low, they apparently can't afford to put out anything but the most recent models.

Is the F31fd still available anywhere in the US or Canada? Been looking and calling without success.

I don't want a 12MP pocket camera but may have to settle for that. Thanks.

Amazon is selling the F31 from another vendor for a whopping $379.95. But if you really want one they are supposedly in stock. I have one and really like it. It took a little bit of work to figure out the best settings, but I think it is a great little camera to take along when my DSLR is too big.

I saw one in MBK Bangkok for 13,700 THB with case and 1 GB card. Still expensive. I ended up asking my Mum in Australia to get me an F20 through **** Smith for 198 Aussie dollars, less than half the F31 Thai price. Have not received it yet but looking forward to it. I live in Myanmar and we cant buy them at all here.

I like the shoes. The older, the better.
Macro is one of the assets of well balanced zoom on the F-30/31.

But, if you want to experiment with the beauty of F30's spot metering AND low light

focusing AND high ISO handling, try the scenes wit uneven, and mixed light, such as a street at the dusk with glowing shopping windows and coffeehouses.
Show some real Croatia. Beautiful land. Beautiful people.

... and "recent models" are always only slightly worse than previous:

F40 is only slightly overstuffed with pixels, instead has worse battery than F30, and less controls. Nobody was paying attention to that, because f-30/31 was still available.
