Look there: http://www.sigma-photo.fr/site/main/index.aspx

It's in French : “le nouveau compact arrive,” which means, for those who may not know French at all, “the new compact is coming”. They don't say when though, but if it is advertised on the French website of Sigma, it is very likely that it will be annonced (again) at the Salon de la photo in Paris next week.

If you click on the link for the DP1 (just below the picture of the camera not on the picture of the camera) on the website (see link above) you can read this, which is very clear. It will be release in few days:

thanks very much for pointing this out... maybe most others don't read French... ;-) this page seems to have some new details too

http://www.sigma-photo.fr/site/article/affichageArticle.aspx?idSegmentation=0000008&idArticle=0000083
at least it confirms the specs, optional accessories, etc.
Also at the Salon... Georges' new book, photo exhibit
;-)
Best regards, Sandy

added: by the way, the specs just say.. Sigma PhotoPro... no version number...

I was interested in the JPEG specs, not sure if they had those before, this info chart confirms the absence of the (rather useless and confusing to 'reviewers') Super Hi of the SD14.
I was curious too if we could glean something about SPP. version.. nope.

But the French website specs confirm the... specs... which should eliminate the (stupid) speculation the other day about a different sensor, n'est-ce pas?

Best regards, Sandy

Well, I guess that they can play with our patience by saying that the DP1 is coming (it can be “coming” for months), but I think that, considering all the frustations out there about the fact that it was postponed for so long, they wouldn't say “le nouveau compact de Sigma arrive” (the new Sigma's compact is coming) without having in mind a close date for the release. Also, think that it is, so far, only mentioned on the French website with a link there to the Salon de la photo which will take place in Paris next week.

Hello,

French is my mother tongue, so I understand it quite well.

I do not see any date on this page, except for a copyright notice at the bottom dated 2006.

The étui is also listed on this page: http://www.sigma.com.hk/news/SIGMA%20DP1.htm as part number Case CS-70. this page is dated 2007.3.8 (March 8, 2007 if I read it correctly). Movie is mentioned as a recording mode as well.

I would wait until the Salon opens before getting excited.

Richard

I totally agree that we should wait and see. However, I would add that even if, as mentionned just above, by a native french speaker (like myself), the copyright is dated 2006, it is a part of a page entitled “derniers tests, dernières infos...,” that we find NOW on the updated website where they invite us to the Salon de la photo de Paris.

This is not a high volume forum in comparison to the others.

You will, however, find more interest once it reaches the shelf near more avid users/posters.

And if France will be a "pilot" intro market...still there may not be as much discussion. There are just few French posters...not avid ones.

Hum, Richard, you are right, it looks pretty much the same in English where we even have a date from last spring. I am very sorry. I will keep my mouth shut from now! At any rate, I am quite satisfied with my GRD.

But if I could...

Otherwise I would fix it and not laugh out loud!

Judging by the accuracy and the low key presence of google's humor...I see this on the bottom of their list of concept to word transliteration on the bottom of their list.

What I would expect google to come out with is a pigeonrank technology with transliterations where contextual algorythms and database improves based on corrections people make on the translated pages.
