Hello all,

Last time I posted I had links to "small" versions of my photos. I have since gotten a Pbase account to upload some Full Res pics this time.

These were taken today at Bellingrath Gardens in Alabama. Roughly 350 cars were on display.

I hope you all like the photographs. I have MUCH to learn about the D60.

Okay....let me know what you think. For those that are "comparing" pics for the D60. They are worth a look I suppose for that as well, since they are full size and non edited right from the camera.

I'm happy with the results of the D60 so far. Though the camera exceeds my abilities. So, I have room to grow.

Okay..enough of my blithering. If you enjoy cars...go hit my pbase site.

Hope the above link works. If not...post..and I'll try to fix it.

Hi and thanks for the nice comments!!

The majority of the shots posted were taken with the Canon 50mm F1.4 and the 100-400mm.

There were some AWESOME cars there for sure....its hard to beat the beating in your chest that you get...when a HEMI REV's up...music to my ears.

Absolutely stunning and beautiful !! What lenses are we using on
your D60 ?

The Cobra pic is making me ache for the D60 !!

Thanks for the compliment.

It was a very nice day for taking the shots.

I am a 3d graphic artist and I spend hours and hours on a computer each day for my job. So photography is really a "much" needed prescription for me to get out and enjoy the "real" world.

The shots were out of my camera no post processing. I found the results to quite excellent in my opinion. Seems the forum has a lot wishing to analyze the pics...and hey, some nice cars for such couldn't hurt eh?

Nice pics. Obviously it's truly possible to shoot something else
than babies with the D60...

what year is that old Corvette (dash shot)??

I used to have a 1958 Vette & it had that same dash :-)

Mike,

I'm giddy. The richness of the colors...amazing. And look at those grass blades. I mean it, when you can discern individual grass blades, then you're talking resolution baby. You can even see some of the scratches on the Cobra hood. I loved that shot and the one with a cross view of the rows of cars. One thing I noticed was that viewing the image in the Pbase window showed a lot of jaggys and then when opened in Photoshop, they were gone. I wonder why Photoshop does that.

I'm envious but patient,

OK, that's what I was waiting to hear, and now I'm worried about the interpretation of red on the D60. Phil's color charts have shown it to some degree, but these pictures make it clear.

Look at the photo of the car with the red dashboard or the picture of the American flag. It's like this D60 went to Sony Color School... even down to the mossy color of the grass in some photos.

I know some here have mentioned the "improved" color of the D60, but I'm not so sure I agree... particularly with what I've been seeing of the color red in samples so far.--Bryan http://www.siverly.net

James,

Any time a webpage resizes an image the browser usually displays a JPG with jagged edges. The resizing tools in Photoshop and other image editors is WAAAAY better than the browser.

The page with the corvette dash uses this code

IMG class="display" src="

" border=0 HEIGHT=533 WIDTH=800

to display the image. I suspect that his original was much larger and PBase forced the image to display at that smaller size in the browser. If they created the thumbnails, it may also be that their system just isn't as good as say Photoshop.

Later,

Hello,

I have read your comments about the red. For "me"...( purely subjective ) the reds look just fine. They match what my eyes saw at the car show. But, we all have our preferences.

I went ahead and uploaded a few more pics for you to check out the "reds" on, in my pbase gallery. Another red custom corvette and another red dash shot. They probably will seem the same "color wise" to you. But, maybe such will be helpful to others reading and checking out the pics.

http://www.pbase.com/mikebyrd

Also if I recall in past reading, the D30 at times had problems with blues/purples? I don't exactly recall. But, anyway..I have also included some photos now, that have a purple vehicle and a blue one. For those that might also like to compare those colors as well.

I figure at the "worst"...I'd just would have posted more pics for people to look at. For those maybe deciding to "buy' or "not"...maybe some insight as to the performance of the camera might be gleaned.

Comments welcome...good or bad.

Sorry I didn't get the exact "year" in the photograph. The carshow had the "cards", for the owners in my "least" favorite spots for photography.

But, anyway I went ahead and uploaded the front shot of the vette. That car was one very nice car!!! So maybe it will help you identify the exact year.

I wish I could have driven home in it. :)

I have read the comments in this forum thread..as well as read the email sent to me.

So I went ahead and posted "More" full size pics to my pbase gallery for you all to print....or examine as you need, for helping to decide on the quality or expected performance of the camera.

Hello,

Its nice to see that my pics caused you to be "giddy". I "personally" think if you buy either the D30/D60 you will be quite happy.

I had previously been shooting "digital" P&S digital cameras, but I felt I exceeded their ability to do what I wanted.

So, anyway.....so far, I have good feelings about this camera. I can't compare directly to the D30 never having owned it...but admiring the D30 capabilities...is what convinced me to go for the D60.

I uploaded more pictures to my pbase account. So check them out as well. Hopefully they will create that same 'giddy" feeling for you.

Great pictures!!

Is it me or is the red cobra picture a little under-exposed? See its grass as compared to others. I think the white stripe threw the meter off.

Other than that all is spot on.

I agree that its a bit underexposed.

If I "recall" I had it set for "spot metering" and there is a good chance I had it placed in the wrong area at that time.

Anyway, I liked the cobra, so I posted the pic. I was amazed to even be able to read the 'coca-cola' on the can in the background...and the stitching on the mans shoes in the photo.

A few of the pics I choose not to post originally. But, there was an interest in "color" so while especially the row shot of various colored vehicles didn't quite "sit" with me. I still posted it...for color comparison.

Glad you liked them as a whole though. Thanks. :)

I'm learning slowly...but having fun doing so.

That is a 1958, the same year I had.

You will probably get a kick out of this, I sold the car years ago for $900 & it had the Rochester Fuel Injection option & a removeable hardtop!!

-John

A kick?? only if I had the chance to have bought it from you back then!!!

Ack...lovely car though. At least you were able to own one for awhile.

Anyway...glad you enjoyed the pic and the trip down memory lane. :)

Now watch your speed on memory lane so you don't get a "past due" speeding ticket!!

Wow - how many of us wish we'd hung onto that '55 Chevy we had?

Really nice pictures.
