Stupid me thinking a cheap price is a good deal. I ordered a G2 a couple of weeks ago and now I am told they're out of stock. So many posters have had the same experience of delays in shipping--even when Dell's site says they're in stock. My local camera store in Anchorage, AK is selling them for $769 and since we have no sales tax, that's a deal. But now, after two calls to Dell's customer service, I still can't get them to cancel my order. If you've been through that successfully, please tell me how to get it cancelled. The agent says there is no cancellation code, just check the order confirmation which shows nothing!!!! Mr. Dell should know what lousy customer service he offers. My guess is they try to lowball prices just to get business and then screw folks on the service angle.

First send Dell a Certfied letter asking them to cancel your order be sure to explain that they were not truthful about having the camera in stock..Then call your credit card company and explain that your getting the run around from Dell..Keep calling Dell keep records of your efforts...Make a formal complaint to your State Atty. General..Just keep wacking away at them..Call a local TV station ours have a help people type service..Try asking for Mr. Donald Dell or his Staff oficer..Be Firm and don't give up.

What has worked for me, and others, is to tell Chandler in Customer Service - Order Status online forum your order number and to cancel (cancel #whatever in subject line). Simple as that. Thing is, I've also seen people say it doesn't always show on the order status web page right away that it is cancelled. Even worse is credit back delays. I myself had one instance of two bill payments, one a cancelled system order and the other the indended system order. Good luck (you'll need it?).

what i don't get is, why not just wait? other people are starting to get their camera's. if the price is good, can't you just wait a little longer? dell doesn't have the greatest of ability when it comes stuff in stock.

my guess is, as soon as you cancel the order, that's probably when it's in. and you'll have to wait all over again....

just a thought anyway...

I thought of that but with shipping to Alaska which is always exorbitant, it would only be a few dollars more. Plus I get the satisfaction of buying it from a local camera shop which has been around for 70 years that I can deal with--they are an authorized Canon dealer. Also, I have a trip to Las Vegas on the 17th that I want to be sure I have a camera for. Thanks for all the suggestions. This Forum rocks!

go to the dell.com site and go to support, go to customer forums, register and go to customer service. Address your message

Chandler please read. Tell him your order number and name and ask him to cancel and say you've had trouble on the phone. He's amazing and he'll do it.

Also I had the same g2 issue. I called right when customer service answered. they tried to talk me out of cancelling but I was firm (but not rude) and they did it no problem.

good luck.--Nancy http://www.pbase.com/ntice/root

lol I just sent him to Chandler too! he's the best. Also it does
take at least 24 hours for the cancellation to show up on the page
but if Chandler says he did it then it's done.
Yep, too bad it's the weekend though. Nothing done until Monday at earliest.--Farewell, Bob H.

Guess I'm lucky. I have a Dell computer and I've never had problems with Dell's service. (knock on wood)

I don't know who "Chandler" is but I can tell you from my experience that if you try to cancel you will
1. waste hours of your time on hold getting shuttled to different departments
2. wind up receiving the order anyway- after it was officially cancelled.

If you can, just wait for it- and never order from them again.

It's OK to buy so so Computers from DELL (they're paid a lot for advertising and for those misleading reviews from numerous magazine).
BUT ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM DELLWARE ( Dell accessories store ).
Just read the forum on their own website .

It is very deceptive pratice to say "IN STOCK" while they are NOT.
you can get better deal somewhere else.
Good luck to you.

EXACTLY my experience. And you're correct, I'll never order from Dell again. But, knowing what I know now, I'd still cancel the order just so I wasn't helping keep Dell in business by buying anything from them. When they hurt bad enough, companies like them finally get the message and change . . . or go out of business.

I think that you're getting all bent out of shape for no reason.....So many stories with Dell about the "right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing"

Won't you feel foolish when your camera is at your front door tomorrow morning ! Ron

I wasted hours and hours on the phone just trying to get someone to help me. They couldn't fix the problem and won't exchange the computer so it went back. EVeryone at Dell was nice, but nobody was authorized to do anything. After the computer horrors I was very anxious about ordering my s9000, but it actually came two days early. My s200 doesn't show shipping until May, but I will just keep my fingers crossed.

I've listened to a lot of complaints on the forum regarding Dell. I personally have had good experiences with Dell on the computer side of their business. Our entire company uses Dell products. So that's a plus.

On the camera side, I placed my order on March 19. I got a confirmation that they will ship on or bdefore April 17. The price I am paying is $670 for the G2 delivered to my door.. My order was placed knowing that the G2 was out of stock. At the time I place my order, G2 were hard to find. Even now G2 are just becoming avaiable (see other threads.)

The point is that if a person is willing to be a bit patient then Dell is a very good deal. I've not seen a better price delivered to my home in Calif. Yes, everyone has horror stories. Even the best of the camera stores have problems and miscommunicate at times. (see http://www.pricegrabber.com )

My feeling is that people are over reacting to the Dell web site when they hear and notice that the camera is "In Stock". I placed my order knowing that I would not get it until April. I was willing to wait at that time. I am still willing to wait to get one of the best deals on a G2 that I know of.

Take a deep breath and be patient.

Hi all,

My experience with Dell is also quite positive. I placed my order of S30 on Mar. 18, received a confirmation e-mail that it will ship by Apr. 3. I received it on Mar. 29, not bad, given that I knew it was out of stock when I ordered. I guess if you are not in a hurry, Dell is quite a good deal.

Also the reps are quite nice and polite, I wasn't put on hold for too long, unlike the other vendor Gateway accessories store, you waited forever to get a rep on the phone.

I think Dell handles corporate accounts much better than the single computer buyer. I would just like the hours back that I spent try to fix that piece of garbage they sent me. Glad you had positive experiences, but my experience have no resembleance to mine. Oh I do agree that once you got a rep they were usually pleasant, except for english-as-a-second-language India guy who gave be wrong instructions, the trick was just actually getting someone. My favorite was that after waiting on hold for a hour and half those disconnected me - of course they had my service tag info, but didn't attempt to call me back. shame on dell

No one should have to put up with this kind of service..Donald Dell knows what he is doing..When dealing with "little people" his non corporate customers..he could care less.Your time holding the phone to your ear and endless phone calls to un-careing phone hands..can not be re-covered. His money is spent on stupid TV Adds not service.
