Hi I'm looking for a 1.4x TC for my 70-200 f4. So I was wondering if the Canon one is worth the price? Or would the others, like the tamron, kenko, etc, be the same optically for less money?

THanks

The general concensus is that the Kenko 300 DG Pro 1.4x is pretty much
equal to the Canon 1.4x but this somewhat varies depending on the
lens it is being used with. The Canon seems to focus better with
some lenses and the Kenko better with others. I got the Kenko and
I'm happy with it.

I have the 70-200L f4 IS and previously the non-IS version. I also have both the Canon 1.4X Extender and the Tamron 1.4 Teleconverter (the cheap one). I did do a test one time and found the Tamron to be SLIGHTLY softer than the Canon (same on my 100-400) but the difference wasn't great. The Tamron gives a cooler colour, slightly less contrast and slightly less saturation than the Canon. The Kenko Pro and similar are probably closer to the Canon than the cheaper Tamron is. Some have said that they like the Kenko Pro better than the Canon - I haven't tried them. If cost is an issue, I don't think you will be losing too much by going to the cheaper alternative. Having said that, I would try to stretch to either the Canon or one of the "pro" aftermarket converters if you can.

Ive had them all. The canon is better on canon lenses. I m pretty sure canon has spent more on compatibility than their competitors.
