Seems to be very little on this yet. Has anyone seen any reviews of this on a production model, or got any more personal experiences of it. The pre-prods sounded ok but needed tweaking, so I wondered whether Sony had managed this....

As I'm from the UK, there seems to be no news at all about when it is due to be released...

Thanks

It's out, at least in the States. I got one from Good Guys about a week ago. I love it. It's exactly as much digicam as I wanted. I laugh at my buddy with the DSC-P1 when he has to take his special "info lithium" charger with him even on a short trip. I just charge up a few sets of plain old Ni-MH AA cells and I'm good to go.

So, how are the quality of the pictues? And also how do you like the size of this camera. I have been going back and forth between this and a Canon S200 - wish I knew which one was better. Thanks

I think i'll buy this camera soon but it would be nice to know if the production level camera is more improved :)
That's exactly the camera i waited for.
Since the last few month i thought about a reflex camera or a digital one.
I'm not a professional but more than 'just klicker'.

After a few talks and a bit of thinking i decide to take a digital camera, but i had a few conditions...
  • (quite)long Battery life
  • nice resolution
  • big storage (if not in the camera than upgradable)
  • optical zoom (at least it should have one)
  • some manual settings
  • Features like b&w, sepia, stuff like that
  • and at last the price have to be below 500$.
and the DSC-P71 brings all along(+some more :) !

Unfortunately in germany Sony wants 485$ for this little piece of technology but i think it's worth.

I think the quality of the images is quite high. Well up to Sony standards.
Isn't the Canon a 2MP camera? I wouldn't say it was a direct competitor.

I just bought the dsc p71 2 days ago for 400 bks. This is my first digital and I think the pics are great! It took me a while to "learn it" but it wasn't bad. Just throw the 16mb card in the drawer and get the 128. I'm keeping this baby.
