I don't think that is so. The hot-shoe 'switch' is a thin strip which acts as a pressure contact (left side of the shoe as viewed from the BACK) and as anything slides into the shoe (and it just has to be a near-tight fit to secure it) it then presses down on this contact strip and THAT 'informs' the camera to deactivate the built-in flash.Just place a piece of tape to cover the bottom of the viewfinder and
you'll be able to slide it into the hotshoe without disabling the
on-camera flash. . . .
