Hi does any one know of a source for an original lens hood for P880.

Kodak have suggested an adapter & any 55mm hood but I feel thisa would cause problems with wide angle photos.
any thoughts

Lew

You can get vignetting at 24mm with Kodak's lenshood, Lew. As I normally crop such pics, it doesn't really matter to me.

I'll look for a sample and post it later.

I lost my hood too. Curious to see your pics at WA & vignetted. I prefer the foldable rubber style hood myself. With a step up adapter I wonder how big one needs to use to have no vignetting with a circular rubber hood at 24mm WA?

You could buy them from Kodak 6 months ago. Cost with shipping was about $20. I don't know if they still have them.

I use the lens hood a lot of the time on my P880 and it does not even come close to vignetting the corners. There was a post on this problem some time ago, and mike from kodak suggested that it was installed wrong because he confirmed their is no vignetting with the hood. The reader replied that it was indeed installed wrong. The lens hood is hard to put on. And if done wrong you will get vignetting, if you do it right, I have not seen any yet. Do a search on the subject if you like.

I ordered a remanufactured P880 last week (my third P880) from Kodak and it was missing the lens hood. I just received it yesterday and it was brand new, so they must have more.

BTW anyone looking for a P880 should not hesitate to get it remanufactured from Kodak, even though it is remanufactured the one I got is better then the "new" ones I got from Ritz. It has not even a spot of dust in the lens assembly when I shine a flashlight down the barrel, and no occasional lock up problems that my others have (I have 3). And it just seems more newer, I had a rep look up the serial number to see when it was made and it is fairly new even newer then the ones from Ritz. So get it while you still can, 30 day money back guarantee and one year warranty. And their not old hand me downs.

I also do not get vignetting like that with my P880 with the hood on.

Yep......all my fault......I hadn't turned the hood enough to lock it into position. I haven't used the hood a lot as there hasn't been much sun about here this Summer. In fact, the P880 is the very first digicam I've used with a hood.

All this shows how uncritical I am re my photos!

Thanks again fellow Kodakians.

Bertie.

I am glad all is well with your camera. I keep the lens hood on all my cameras just for protection in case I bang my lens against something. Also, if I forgot to put my lens cap back on, the lens hood serves as some sort of back up protection.

I only disadvantage I see is that when using the internal flash, you will get a shadow at the lower part of your photo.
