I have had the G9 a week so I'm still getting used to it. It's the second time taking it to Red Rocks. This time for the Muse show. We were a bit further away, but some of these came out nicely. Just thought I'd share.

These are all straight out of camera except for the resizing and sharpening. All ISO 800 or above, most at the long end of the lens.

Red Rocks has a small camera policy, but doesn't let any DSLR in. So this is the best compromise for me. They even see something like an S5 and they get a little iffy - depending on the guard.

Myself and others have been asking for low-light, high ISO G9 images but this is the first set I've seen. Thanks for sharing.

Could you share your settings? I went outside tonight as I live in a shopping centre and couldn't get people when moving but the lit shops were great. Did you use manual or change the EV to minus to get such clear shots or maybe my problem was that the people passing were too close? Is face detect an asset or a disadvantage at night? Didn't get anyone in focus unless I asked them to keep still for me. Any tips most appreciated.

Another vote of thanks, here. I'm looking at the G9 for concert photography, so these are just the kind of samples I'm looking to see. I'm normally never that far away (I'm good / lucky with tickets ;)) so I'm pleased to see how it delivers from the distance.

Was this an easy camera to get into the kind of venue that's fussy about not letting 'professional' cameras in?

I think it depends where you live. Here in Israel even 4 years ago, they checked my bag and took the batteries out of my G3 and gave them to me afterwards and I wasn't even yet inside the concert. However I have a bag with a false bottom for travelling and I keep it for such occasions so now will try again.
Sure would like to know his settings for the concert as they are so good.

I always shoot manual in these situations - your light meter will go crazy with stage lighting. I set it to ISO 800 or 1600, and try to keep the shutter speed as high as possible with the widest aperature I can use. Timing is critical too. You won't get anybody jumping unless they have really good lights or you are using a DSLR with a 1.4 lens. But rock stars like to posture importantly - and that's the time to get them....
