I'm headed to Portland for a few days and then headed to the Palouse/scablands area, Sun Valley, ID and Eastern Oregon on the way back. 2 week trip starting the 22nd of Sept.

Any recomendations or favorite shooting spots up that way you can direct me to? Looking for fall color and interesting subjects in out of the way places. I have the Photograph America newsletters and there is a lot of country up there.
Thanks

in sun valley (actually picabo) go to silver creek nature conservancy and shoot Silver Creek early a.m. up to 10ish or at sundown. ketchum environs also offer some interesting shots.

for a half-day trip, go north over the pass and shoot the sawtooths up to redfish lake and stanley.

finally, for silver creek and the wood, bring your rod/reel, you lucky dog.

p.s. the new botanical garden (with dalai lama blessed peace prayer wheel -- the only one in US) before you get to ketchum is a nice venue, too. invest in an 2 stop graduated ND as the skyscapes are fab.

below sun valley/beyond picabo lies the craters of the moon. great for BW.

as for IR (i checked your postings), the foliage on the wood (cottonwoods) and the grasses at silver creek w/ rolling hills should prove interesting.

be sure to post your captures! have a good one.
