Who uses Lensmate

I use the 58mm one from Adorama for $10 less. I'd say it's every bit as good or better than the Lensmate one. All of Adorama's filters and other accessories are also less expensive than those purchased from Lensmate. Lensmate is a "specialty" dealer who thinks they can charge higher prices and make more money off of the very same products sold at hundreds of other places for less. Just like those online battery stores that do the same. I don't support scams like that.

Russ,

I got the Lensmate adaptor as an added bonus to my "new" used S3 - the owner who sold me the S3 said he never used the camera without the adaptor. I have a really nice Hoya SMC circular polarizer 58mm that I'm looking forward to trying out (the S3 doesn't have that wonderful in-camera ND!).

The best part for me is that with the adaptor you can use a REAL Lens Cap - one that screws on! Wow! now it's worth it just for that IMHO.

Nonsense! I bought my lensmate and had it shipped to me at the same price that my local Henrys wanted for the plastic Canon one.

I also have a Canon G7 with a Canon lens adapter attached to a Canon wide angle converter lens and it too does not touch the end of the wide angle converter lens when fully zoom. However, the Canon G9 will shutdown when I fully zoom with the Raynox HD 0.66x wide angle converter lens. I have to press the power button to turn the G9 back on and continue to take pictures. I just have to be careful when zooming with the wide angle converter lens attached to the G9.

I find that Adorama is a little too high. I can beat a lot of their prices by going to B&H Photo. Adorama sells the Ricoh digital cameras a lot more than popflash does, popflash is normal fifty dollars less than Adorama on Ricoh digital cameras. Lensmate does have a few dollars markup but I like their service and their speedy delivery. When I order, Adorama takes 5 working days to delivery it to San Diego, B&H Photo Video takes 4 working days, Amazon.com takes 3 working days, Lensmate takes 2 working days by U.S. mail, and popflash.com takes 1 working days. popflash.com is just outside of Los Angles and is closer to San Diego is the reason that they take only 1 working day.

I just came back from the beach about 2 weeks ago where I was chasing my 6 year old grandson around in blowing sand and water. I used my lensmate with a filter to protect the lens all through this.

I guess it all depends on what items you are buying then. I don't buy from B&H anymore because every time I checked on some item I wanted their price was always a a couple dollars higher than other places. Maybe they've started to become more competitive on their accessories. I'll remember to check them again in the future, but they won't be the first place I stop to shop. Too much time wasted in the past looking for the best deal there. Though I have to admit, they still carry an IR flood that I can't find less expensive anywhere else. They're still on my radar, just not as much.

On the other hand, Lensmate is the last place I would ever check. I'm never that much in a rush where 2 or 3 days wait makes a difference. If it does then I can spend the same price as I would at Lensmate at other places by paying for their express delivery services. This still amounts to no savings nor benefits from shopping Lensmate.

Taking into account the cost of a lens repair or a new camera, the
Lensmate is a no brainer. Like I said before, I like the looks of the
camera with it attached, but even if I did not like the looks, it
would still be attached!!
Thats's why I got mine from Adorama for $10 less. The same protection for less price. My camera accidentally slid off my bike seat and hit lens first onto some hard gravel. The strong aliuminum adapter that fits secure and snug from Adorama kept the camera in new condition. How is this protection any different if I bought it from Lensmate? it's not.

The ONLY reason Lensmate is being promoted so much on this forum is because so many have bought from them and a few vocal shills promote the name Lensmate every chance they get. No other reason.

Hold on there a minute buckaroo, read the original SUBJECT LINE. What product is Russ asking about? I know that I have mentioned the Lensmate product no more than maybe 3 times on this forum. I am not saying that it is the only product to get. I just have had a good experience with mine. I mentioned it just like you mentioned your adapter tube from Adorama. I am glad that you are happy with it!
GET A LIFE!!

Thanks Brad. Having used Lensmate before I will probably go for it. Just can't decide if I really want it.

Russ- I just sold my G7 today and got a G9. I use two of the Lensmate Adapters to hold the Raynox HD-7000Pro 0.7 wide angle adapter and another for a Nikon Fisheye. I also regularly mount a circular polarizer and even sometimes a Hoya R72 Infrared filter. I think the metal feels much more solid than the plastic of the Canon LA-DC58H.

Philip, money is a factor for me and the 7000 sounds great since I love WA pics, can't afford a lot of stuff though. Does the CP do a good job on that Lensmate?

I think you will like the G9. I love mine and have very good luck just changing a few settings and shooting in P mode. Thanks for the reply.

Cons: 1)At full tele the lens will hit the back of the filter
attached to the Lensmate, so you have to either restrict the tele by
a tiny amount or screw the filter out a turn and a half (then duct
tape in position
Russ -good thread...

Based on Stephen Kovac Jr and mojorisn's experiences with the G7 and G9, I wonder if, perhaps, there is a small difference in the dimensions of the G9 vs. G7 that Lensmate have not yet taken into account with their adaptor. Seems that the adaptor interferes with the G9 lens when fully extended, but not the G7.

If that's the case, maybe it would be good to wait for Lensmate to modify their adaptor slightly for the G9.

Regards.
Joe

Hey Joe,

Here is an interesting observation. When I had my A640 and the Lensmate that went with it, I had the same problem with the lens "nudging" the filter, at full tele extension, of the native A640 lens. I had to back the filter out a couple of turns. Different Lensmate adapter with the G9, same issue. Its not a big deal and the native lens does not bump up against the Oly TCON-17 TC that I amusing, but then it also requires an additional step down ring 58 to 55 mm. The issue is reall y with the lens bumping up against the filter.....did it with the 640, does it with the G9

Is this just with the raynox wide
