What is your favorite photography Magazine?

Although I do buy photography specific magazines almost every month, the ones I really enjoy and learn from the photos are actually Time and Newsweek, which I get weekly. If you are a fan of true photojournalism, these two very often have stuff which really interests me, shot by some of the best in the field. I also buy National Geographic every month. THere are no photography specific magazines that I buy with every issue.

Hi Everyone,

For magazines still in circulation, it would have to be "The British Journal of Photography" (aka. BJP):

http://www.bjphoto.co.uk/

The magazine is pitched mainly at professionals, but always includes good portfolios and thorough equipment reviews.

For me, however, the magazine which stood head and shoulders above all the others was without question the late, much-lamented "Creative Camera" from the 1970s & 1980s:

They never bothered with equipment reviews, but the portfolios & presentation were always of a dazzlingly high standard, covering both new photographers and old masters. They also published an annual International Yearbook, which you can sometimes find in secondhand book stores.

There's a nice history of "Creative Camera" here (the rest of this website is also well worth a look!):

Inspiring stuff!

Cheers,

Popular Photography for us. Like someone else said, it gives me some down time when my job begins to get to me (and of course there are those "bathroom" times).

I also loved Modern Photography but.... c'est la vie.

I get Popular Photgraphy and Shutterbug. I just got a flyer in the
mail yesterday to receive American Photo. I have decided to let
Shutterbug run out and not add a new one to the mix.

I read a lot online, but will keep getting Pop Photo, mainly because
it is so hard to carry the laptop in to the bathroom with me all the
time.

(I also like having a magazine in my bag all the time for "down
times" at work, so I can read something to clear my mind. (ESPN Mag,
Pop Photo or This Old House Mag are the usual suspects)
I have PhotoLife for nearly the same reason. There's a ton of great information online, but I can't exactly surf the web when I'm at the gym. I am not, however, going to drip sweat on lensWorks. ;-)

I may be crazy, but I still have about 50 of the 57 or so issues of Photo that came out between 1980 and 1983. The publisher was Cavendish publications, I think.

They were like a mini-course in photography, where each issue covered a section of photography like macros, telephoto work, portraiture, etc.

Close to 30 years later, I'll still go to them when I'm trying to re-gain some perspective and skill.

As far as current magazines, I really like Outdoor Photography magazine.

Hey Jack!
Morning Tijean,
Their photo contests are generally open to everyone, Canada being
such a diplomatic state and all,
;D

but the Pentax gear drawings are
only open to Canadians.
probably because the Pentax prices are cheaper in the States ;D

Cheers,

Jack

Just kidding. I don't like photo mags any more, same stuff over and over again year after year. Half of the pages are ads for stuff you don't need. You can learn more on the web than in print and it's faster and free.

Regards Allan.

I have a photographic memory, but I keep forgetting to remove the lens cap.
