I've been more than happy with my Fuji F10, but I'd like to upgrade to something that might allow me to develop more as a photographer (more manual controls etc...)
I spend a lot of time taking photos at gigs - so low light performance (without flash especially) is important to me, and I've been very happy with the F10 in this regard. My budget is $500 or so, which I imagine should be plenty for a good compact. I'm quoting the price in dollars depiste being in the UK because I'll be in the US in November and will likely buy there to take advantage of the favourable exchange rate!
I'd ideally like it to be 7MP+ and more than 3x Optical zoom which is helpful in larger venues or places where there's a pit. It's got to be a compact because I can't get photo passes for shows and most venues won't allow SLRs in. I was thinking about maybe the Canon G9 or A650IS - would these be a significant improvement on the F10? I know they'd offer me more manual control etc...
There does seem to be a nice new Fuji equivalent (F50IS?) but this is still 3x optical.
I've got a few photos of varying quality at:

I am still a beginner (hence posting in this forum), so be gentle if you look at my shots!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
