I have just been told by B&H that the pro 90 is discontinued (Maybe you all knew that already). Can anyone confirm this? also.. if true, since sales were still pretty brisk, wouldnt that mean that Canon intends to come out with "some" replacement? Perhaps just a G2 touch. My thinking is that if there was no replacement, why not just let pro 90 sales continue to role along.

personally i don't think it is, since people are still selling it and want to buy it. though they are a good store, i can't help but think that they were possibly trying to persuede you to buy a newer more expensive camera.

funny thing is, even when it was new, it was still tricky to find. alot of popular catalogs never showed that had any.

but right now i just did a search and really couldn't find it anywhere. the best thing you can do is to contact canon, and see what's up. it is on their site.

This forum mentions the rumor that the pro90IS will be discontinuid without a replacement for months.

This due to a non feasible replacement (technicall vs financial). Statements are that it's to expensive to replace.

Other rumors talk about bolting a g2 on a pro 90 to kick it into the next level...

Still I hope for a replacement with IS, long zoom, 5mp ...

Sales are brisk now that the price has come down. I think at the current price level it is hard to make money on the Pro90IS. That's why it is discontinued. Same with the Olympus C-2100. Both are great cameras.

I think I'm changing my opinion on the replacement of the Pro90.

I think it's safe to say that the there won't be a Pro90 replacement near in the future... but it's likely that there will be one.

With the digital camera technology advancing at an incredible rate (equivalent to the computer industry), higher and higher MP's are being made.

I think digital cameras with 10x optical zoom, like the Pro90, will always be behind other cameras because of it's lens. I mean, if Canon can produce a higher MP for the long zoom, think about how it would benefit other cameras with shorter lens.

Think about it...

it's unlikely that they'll put a new chip in the pro 90 since it will still only see 2.6 of the 3.3 or 4.0. unless the chip were smaller. or foveon would be nice.

what i think is, that, either the camera is simply too old and costly to make, as you mentioned. or this whole G2 crack issue has them re-tooling the plant to fix and rebuild millions of cameras. and they may not have the time to make more pro 90's. the one's they have now are probably from a backlog.

some stores still have it, alot of them don't. to me it makes little sense, since they can still make money off of it. and they still dont' have a replacement, for the 10x lens.
