Nice! Good composition.

Very nice to see another part of the world. Can't help but be curious but the second last what are those wooden clumps of wood? I saw something similar last trip in Europe and I was also curious and had no-one to ask.
Still looking forward to low light photos though to hear what you think. regards

Are you referring to the sand fence? We also use them to contain snow.

Me too.

are 1, 5 and 7. The first has a stark simplicity that catches my eye, 5 has the woman's slip showing and her posture and clothing in contrast with seat, 7 for the people sitting on left side in sand with all others on the pier made that interesting, Clouds on 7 very nice. My latest thinking on the pics and they all are very nice.

Thanks for the information. Very interesting as we have a lot of sand erosion here in Israel caused by recently built marinas but so far nothing has been done about it or not to my knowledge.

You're welcome, but just to be clear, the fences are to prevent erosion from wind, not water.

Thanks I see. Anyway with so many months of no rain and strong winds it would look very dirty in a short time when I thought about it. Anyway I enjoyed the Jersey shore as I have never seen that area.

Very nice pics and it just made my day.

I love going to the Jersey Shore(Spring Lake) too, it's almost like Australia Gold Coast.

Was struggling whether to get the sd950 or G9.
Now I know the answer.
Thanks!!!

Thanks for the answers. I read the attached web page and bookmarked it for repeated readings. Currently, I have a Rebel XT and an A630. One of my biggest goals is to get a "perfect" waterfall picture, and it sounds like the built in ND would help.

The DSLR is great but sometimes way too heavy since I've started with some arthritus in my hands. I really like my A630 and had been thinking about the 650. This makes the G9 more appealing.

The G7/G9 has a built-in ND8 filter, since no one mentioned what it's
rated at. This makes 3 stops of difference in exposure if I'm not
mistaken.
Thanks.....I didn't know that. I know when I used it the skies were not blown.

  1. 3 and # 5 particularly. Nothing like having good light, is there?
I used to visit the Shore a lot. Looks just as I remember. It's
always nicest when the crowds start to thin after Labor Day.
Thanks for checking them out......Yes, I love the Jersey Shore myself. I lived down there for a couple of years - about 20 years ago. It's always nicer when after Labor Day. :-)

I love the one of the fence. Very graphic. Nice job.

Thank you, Jerry. The sun reflections were the key....just perfect.

Thanks Fredy - I haven't had the time this week to try any lowlights yet.

BTW, I read where you ordered the G9 - you got there just in time at B&H. They got their shipment yesterday morning - and by evening they were out of stock again.

I look forward to hearing how you like it. I think you will - it's a nice camera - it even feels nice to hold.

Thanks again, Russ. I appreciate your input and nice comments. We just hit a perfect day weather wise.......it doesn't happen often enough.

I'm happy the pics made your day! And I'm sure you will enjoy the G9 too. It's a great camera IMO.

Sorry I've not popped in before - I DID look , as soon as you put these on but there's been enough other comments I think , without me adding more .. but now I'm here I must say that of all, I really thought #3 was a great one for me .. the 'sticks' in the sand .. just does something...

But I really wanted to comment re your note here to Fredy .. about trying low-light. Yes , do so , and I hope you get something. But don't expect a lot if you go over 400 - but most of all ... DO try the built-in flash with that Menu 'Safety FE' set ON. You may have to adjust flash strength (side Menu from the 'Set' button) but it really is very surprising what you can do with that .. in many respects it makes an out-board big flash somewhat a doubtful expense for many uses.

Thanks for the kind words.....yes the sand "sticks" photo is my favorite too. I expected the camera would perform well, but the results were better than I expected.

I will try some low light shots - I will definitely try the on-camera flash with Safety FE as I did with the G7. As I mentioned before, I was surprised at how well that feature works. I do like to take indoor shots of my friend's children - and small groups and don't like carrying around the 420EX. I will be quite happy with the results if they are comparable to the G7 - and I see no reason why they wouldn't be.

Oh btw.......I did return the original G9 due to the lens not zooming in or out so often - very strange. J&R took it back although they apparently don't refund shipping even when the camera has a defect. B&H always includes the shipping fee in the refund for defective equipment and pays for return shipping.

I called B&H and managed to squeeze into the few hours that B&H had the G9 in stock on Tuesday - they put a rush on it and I got it the next day. I just happen to live in their "one day shipping territory" meaning NJ - anything I order 3 day ground gets here the next day. The new one arrived yesterday afternoon but haven't had time to open the box.

Thanks again - I'm still using your G7 settings.

Good to hear the news and hope your new one is, and remains, OK.

I'm not going to comment more on the Safety FE ... YOU find out how it works for you in the situations YOU encounter .. but in just a few 'tests' I was quite astounded how well it could perform.
Keep posting as you get more .. we'll see them one way or other..

Regards

Eric
