What do people think will be Canon's next lens? Or, which lens do you think Canon will update next? When do you think it will be announced or released? Does this speculation affect anyone's next lens purchase?

...are my two guesses. Here's why: Canon has been updating a bunch of lenses. They began with some zooms (70-300 IS, 70-200 / 4L IS) and mid-range primes (50 / 1.2L, 85 / 1.2L II), and lately have been on the wide end: 16-35 / 2.8L II and 14 / 2.8L II. I would think the 24 / 1.4L II is next, or they'll jump to the wide end with a 300 / 4L IS followed by a 400 / 5.6L IS.

I have a feeling that the 100-400 / 4L IS is not coming anytime soon, and if the 200 / 1.8L IS were coming, it would have already come. Perhaps an update of the 100-400 / 4.5-5.6L IS, however.

Does the speculation affect my next purchase? A little. I'm probably going to sell my 16-35 / 2.8L, 580 EX II, and ST-E2 to help fund a 14 / 2.8L. But I'd be more interested in a 24 / 1.4L II. Ideally, I'd want a 17 / 2L or 20 / 1.8L, but I don't see either of those coming.

Everything seems to be an updated model of an old lens. I'm wondering when they'll come out with brand new designs.

Personally, I would love a line of lenses with L-class image quality, but just ordinary build quality. A 24-70 in a cheap 17-55-type body, maybe at $700? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

18-200 f/2.8 IS or 18-125 f/2 IS should be very nice but not EF-S, 'L' type with customer friendly price.....

Yeah, its true. Just curious sometimes...that the posts here or in any other web forums read by Canon/Nikon insider? Would be nice if the Canon know what the customer really want or need. What do you think about this lens market, customer driven or producer driven market? Or even camera/enginer enginer driven?

It would be EF 200 L IS f/1.8
and then macro lens with IS (185mm)

Canon EOS 5D and 1DmkIIN, lens: 16mm => 500mm

I think an upgrade of the 100-400 may come -- simply improving the IS from the original 2 stopper to the latest 4 stopper.

Adding IS to the 180 macro would be wonderful. -- I use the lens hand held a great deal, and really need to use flash with it. However putting a 500D on the front of my 70-200 f2.8L IS doesn't require flash anywhere near as much.

New lens -- an L IS equivalent of the Sigmonster (300-800).
