THE RULES

1) Rule #1 is to: "Have Fun!".

2) The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. You post your image(s). The host chooses the winner. The decision of the host ("The Judge") is final. The host is not eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner, and passes on the baton to that person.

3) Any picture you've taken is eligible regardless of time taken and camera.

4) You can do all the post processing you want. However, it is most interesting if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.

5) You may enter up to three pictures, but try to put them within a single post. Please give a title to each photo and specifically for this challenge, a caption is a must - this makes it easier to differentiate when giving comments.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

1) Please size your photo no bigger than 800 pixels on the longest dimension. This is to let those with smaller monitors to see your image at full resolution.

2) Please limit the size of your entries to conserve bandwidth.

3) As a show of courtesy, and to save bandwidth, please remove the original post when replying, so you don't bring back any previous photos

COMMENTING:

1) Feel free to comment on other contestants' images. If you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, put an asterisk ( ) next to the title of the image.

POSTING PICTURES:

1) When posting your picture, change the Subject of your post to display your name or picture titles. This way, when someone comments (i.e. replies), it will refer specifically to you. If all entries read "Re: Mini Challenge 158"... it would be very boring to scan the list.

2) Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website). Also please resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll ( 800 pixels on the longest side works best.).

And how do you embed a picture? I'm glad you asked:

A) While your photo on Flickr, Pbase (or any other web site) is open, copy the URL address from the address box on your tool bar, then paste it into your reply thread. Add a .jpg extension to get the photo to show up. Click on preview to make sure it's what you want.

Or

B) Right click on the image in Flickr, Pbase (or where ever you've hosted it), click on "Properties"..., highlight the link with the .jpg extension on it, and paste it into your message text. Provide any additional information you want.

Congrats for your win in the last challenge.

Close Up photography means magnification ratios of between approximately 1:1 and 1:10 in this mini challenge.

Macro photography traditionally means magnification ratios at approximately 1:1. However, the modern meaning shifted to magnification ratios around 1:4.

Thus, take Close Up and Macro as synonyms in the context of this mini challenge.

Simply said, you shoot in Macro Mode with your digicam to get an eligible picture.

A beautiful picture and a perfect match for the topic.

You can enter images up to 800px side length, you know. I'm sure, many people want to enjoy your Flickr gallery.

A nice idea and a good point of view, Debi. However, the image is a little too undefined for my taste. I encourage you to enter two more pictures.

Thanks for your entries, Amit. A very cute child and a very nice portrait. A portrait stresses the topic a little.

A gesture of friendship is to combine the pictures in one post, to caption each picture and to name the used camera.

Great topic. Congrats to all the winners of the last comp.

All taken with S2IS. Spring is here in Australia, so perfect time to get out and take some spring flowers! The first two are native Australian plants, the third, just an old favourite.

Bottlebrush

Kangaroo Paw - the floral emblem of Western Australia

Rose (by any other name ........)

Top class antidote! Really amazing shots! Makes me wonder why I bother entering my own shots when I'm up against this sort of competition. Really well done.

Beautiful colours in the first two, and great composition in the last. I'm a real sucker for roses, so I guess the second is my fav.
