Well, I posted this thread a few weeks ago, re. the Zeiss Planar T* 1,4/50 ZK ... and it sank like a stone.

There is an 'update': the Planar T* 1,4/85 ZK is now also available in the Zeiss online shop (perhaps this will get slightly more attention than the 50mm, since Pentax already have that focal length quite well covered, but the Pentax 85mm is relatively quite rare).

But, the price? A cool 1,049 Euros. Get those credit cards out!

Cheers,
sfa

Very true, no doubt, if you can easily find one. The FA*85 is not exactly rolling off the production line ...

100mm/f2.0 zeiss... ---> Mega star lens!

Hmmm...

I already added comparable LBA weight to my bag with Voigtlander 125... It is true LBA - I have this lens in my bag almost three weeks now but stil didn't tried it for macro :-/

Without autofocus, multiple of Pentax price, and if there is difference in optical quality in the benefit of Zeiss at all, who will ever see it ? But Zeiss looks and sounds good of course.

i don't agree.... a stop, particularly from 1,8 and 1,4 is alot.

autofocus? this is a studio portrait lens and u can asily live without autofocus. Ithe a 85 1,4 of pentax is manual but sold used for more than 700 euro. The a is considered slightly better oof the zeiss wide open.

At this moment i'll buy the 77 cause is more usable in normal condition, but the 85 is the best portraiture lenght for me. I hope the pentax watch the interest for this focal and try to produce again the fa 85.

Sorry, I intended the 50 mm. Between 1.4 and 1.8 there is no stop, but about 0.8 stop, but I agree the price and value may increase steeply in this range.

i remember 1,2 1,4 1,8 are all stop. then you go 2,8...but 1,4 and 1,8 i think it's one stop of light difference, sorry in advance if i'm wrong.

I compared the photozone review of the 85 with 77. i have to say that 85 is a clear winner. i have not 1000 euro, in case i'd buy it.

what do you mean by 'practically it's considered a stop'?

I would have thought that a stop is a stop, period. So you go 1.0, 1.4, 2.0, 2.8, 4, 5.6, etc.

As someone said, it's about 8/10 of a stop.

Anyway, this probably isn't very important, I'm just bored, I think I'll go get something to eat... :-)

It continues to amaze me that Pentax lenses of all kinds, if they are any good at all, are fetching top dollars everywhere, but Pentax is slow to take advantage of the situation. Reintroducing the FA lenses should not be that hard, is it?

How are you taking a photos, guys, without any sense of the very basics???

Stops for apperture are going by 1.4x because actual ammount of light passing through the diaphragm is SQUARE of the f-number.

Full-stops in Aperture are: F/1, F/1.4, F/2, F/2.8/ F/4, F/5.6, F/8, F/11, F/16, F/22, F/32 etc. Learn it by heart.

Then between 1.4 and 1.8 there ie 1.6 which is 1/3 of a stop from each of them. Thus there is 2/3 od a stop between 1.4 and 1.8
