I am now the proud owner of a 707. This is my first digital camera. Approximately How many photos can I expect on a 128 MS in the fine mode?

Do I need to buy photoshop, or can I just use the software that came with the camera? What is the difference between the $600 photoshop and the $90 version?

Thanks.

You get approximately 51 jpegs or about 9 Tiff.

I only have Photoshop 6 so I really don't know what ps Elements has to offer. welcome aboard,

50-51 images and you can probably get by with PS Elements, the extra features that PS has are mainly gear towards print production rather than image manipulation.

The software the comes with the Sony camera sucks, I wouldn't bother to install it on your computer.

The best program for VIEWING jpgs on your computer is FREE, it's called Irfanview and you can download it from various sites on the internet. HIGHLY recommended.

I used Corel Photo-Paint for image editing but I don't recommend it. The advantage of Photoshop is that it's the standard so lots of material is available on it. However it costs lots of money.

My recommendation is to try a program called Paint Shop Pro which you can download and tryout for free. (I THINK that's the case, that it's one of those programs where you can download it and try it and it stops working after a while unless you pay them money.)

I'm not really sure what features that Corel Photo-Paint has that Paint Shop Pro doesn't.

Another option is to get GIMP, a pretty good although free (!) photoshopish program. I don't need anything else. There are good online information available, even a newsgroup, if you're into stuff like that. Don't let the price come in the way, it's a rather decent tool...--l8erAtte http://home.wanadoo.nl/atte/photo

DOnt be rediculous.
U dont need to pay anything for PHotoshop 6.0

Go to http://www.download.com then download kazaa or morpheus or any p2p sharing. Do a search for PhotoShop - boom - u now have it with full registration. Let me know if the registration code doesnt work - i have a full working copy if u need it. ( i have cable)

hope that helps.

Before you lump everyone into the same behaviour you practice, I am know there are lot's of people who have paid for their version of XP and movies and music they enjoy. Advocating theft is not something this discussion group looks kindly upon or condones. Consider that next time you want to help someone to steal software on the STF.--Shay My Sony F707 Gallery: http://shaystephens.com/portfolio.asp

Oh goodness gracious, Shay.

There you go... getting "all moral" on an honest hard-working klepto... using your old Jedi mind tricks again. :))

I am sorry, but a software which is as overpriced as photoshop deserves to be stolen.

Otherwise go with PSE or Paint Shop Pro.

The included software isn't soo bad. I sometimes use it, if a pic just needs some extra brightness before printing.

It IS a professional tool and offers much, much more than most people will ever come close to needing for photo manipulation. Other professional tools ala Illustrator, Quark Express, InDesign, Freehand, etc. are in the same league - and the same price range. If you are an amateur photographer you are NOT in the intended market for the package.

Hence, Photoshop Elements. . . which I would definitely reccommend to anyone.

I use paint shop pro 7. You can find a free for 30 days trial version at
http://www.jasc.com

I tried this & the trial version of PS6, and liked the style etc of PSP. Also found some reviews that said elements was about equivelent to PSP 7.

I've spent most of the last 2 days doing actual digital editing, and have some awesome results, so it must be foolproof!

As well it is easy to rename, and organize your photos. The anniversary edition has an album generator included (media plus).

I also do not condone the stealing of software. (Must sheepishly admit that some downloading of music occurs in this household)

Gabe,

As a programmer, I am saddened by your view on this. It takes a lot of people (some of which have families to feed) to produce a piece of software as nice and worth the money as Photoshop! You should think of this every time you download and install pirated software. If people didn't pirate Photoshop, Adobe might have enough revenue to hire even more programmers to work on great products!

I'm not lecturing you, but you might want to give it some thought.

Sincerely,
Erik

Here let me help you by making the substitution:
I am sorry, but a car which is as overpriced as a Lexus
deserves to be stolen.
Does your statement still sound so reasonable?

Thanks Shay, I like that argument and fully agree.
Overprised or not, is not the question and never a cause to steal something.

@world:

Try out PS Elements, it's made for all us dumps in photo editing, provides all necessary tools (and some more), the touch and feeling of the "big" PS and is much cheaper. Last not least it is more targeted to the digital hobby photographer than PS itself.

I have been using PSP 7 (which i purchased) for the past 8 months and have found most functions that I want ; some I haven't mastered yet.

I know this is a dumb (look for yourself) question. But I have both PSP7 &

PS6 and find most often that PSP7 is just a little more user friendly. Haven't tried Elements. My questionis: in PS6 I just don't shee Red-eye fix as it has in PSP7. :( Is it there & I haven't looked hard enough? Or is it fix with this tool or that? Duh :( Shayron

I've always said that Photoslop is about as bloated and elitist as they come, as far as software goes.

But "deserves to be stolen"? Wow... That speaks volumes. Maybe a couple of Jedi mind tricks are in order. :)

For now, as you said, PSE does the job, though. Photoshop is designed and meant more for the professional and like oriented crowd... always was. There are other tools that are better aimed for the digital imaging of the type that most people perform, thank goodness.
