Can anyone recommend a good travel insurance company? Id like to insure my camera on this trip, and have never done so.

Thanks

It depends on where you are located, here in the Netherlands most insurrance companies will only take you in if you have other business with them, like your house, furniture etc. I got mine at €30 / 1000. World coverage, loss, theft and damage.

Kind regards

Forgot to mention, start taking down serialnumbers and make a copy of the invoices they will want that.
Kind regards.

Thanks. im in the US and traveling to south america.

there are a lot of companies i find via google search, but the delta in services and costs is so extreme, that im hesitant to engage without a refferal.

anyone ?

Did you try asking your travel agent? My wife and I were looking at some tours, and the agent stated they could insure my luggage including camera.

We're not booking until the new year, so we didn't investigate their insurance too heavily yet.

My home insurance company provides insurance for all my camera equipment. I had to provide serial numbers and costs for coverage. It includes coverage no matter where I am. This would include travel.

I could choose between a specific item by item coverage or general coverage. I choose the specific because they replace the missing item without a deductable.

If you have home owners or renters insurance contact your agent. Ask for a floater policy that will list all your items by cost and provide full replacment in event of loss with out any deductable.

The camera does not have to be stolen for you to be reimbursed, should you drop it and it is no longer working you insurance should cover replacment cost.

Thanks for the infor all.

My homeowners ins plan has a 2500USD deductable, therefore my camera equp (which is less than this) will not be covered. all but 2 of the palces on the net that I have found have serious loopholes for electronics. for instance, there is typically a 500 or 1000 dollar limit on baggage, and most places wont reimburse more than 500 per item. There are 2 corps that insure beyond this, they are both thru http://www.quotewright.com this may work for me, they seem legit after talking with them, and their underwriter.

Still would be happier to have a solid referral.
