Hi

I am looking for the "Undocumented" G2 shorcuts.

I guess that there is a lot knowledge about the G2, which isnt found in the manual.

Chip in with your 5 cents of wisdom.

Surprising that nobody answered this.

Here's one:

After taking a shot, hit the "set" button. The image will remain displayed until you half-press the shutter release. You can now switch to histogram view by hitting the "display" button (it'll become your default view, and you can switch it back again, of course). You can also zoom into the image same as in playback mode.

I learned that here at CTF and I find it AMAZINGLY STUPID that Canon doesn't mention it in the manual. How many reviewers have taken points off because they didn't know the camera has a histogram/zoom in record mode?

There are a couple others, but I can't think of them at the moment

Oh yeah, if you use exposure lock (the * button) w/o flash in P mode, you can scroll through different aperture/shutter combinations with the left/right buttons on the 4-way switch. It won't work with flash lock, but I don't see why it shouldn't. Again, no word about it in the manual...

have fun :o)
No-one with any input on this?

Effzee, page 76 of G2 guide documents this feature.
Another trick i learned on CTF:

If you turn G2 to recording mode and forgot to get lens cap out, lens will not extend and "Lens" message appears on top LCD. Instead of turning off and on again, just half press shutter and lens will extend ;-)

Just looked at my manual and sure enough, there it is. But I KNOW I saw it discussed here as an undocumented feature at some time. I just got my sources mixed up...

This is obliquely mentioned on page 32, Basic Camera functions.

They aren't exactly shouting about it though...

... and I think the tip about pressing the "set" button after a shot is also there. At least I learnt that from the manual itself. Too bad I don't have the manual here with me right now.

Hmmm... 2 strikes against me. I better stop while I'm ahead. I swear I've seen both of those features discussed here as undocumented goodies. Actually, I suppose I never spent enough time with the manual. After discovering dpreview, it seemed superfluous...--Willie G.'It is well to remember that the entire universe, with one trifling exception, is composed of others' --John Andrew Holmes-- http://www.pbase.com/effzee

I have read the manual, and I think that the manual is quite "thin".

There is a lot of "turn this, it does that", but not much about the benfitis of doing so and the possible combinations.

I like the one about "set and display press".

Yeah,

f/8 trick - works for the G2 as well... i tried it with my 420ex.

The trick i'm trying to replicate, i got it only like twice, was with the fixed-focus mode, i managed to have the lens at max telephoto... anyone know how to do this, or did i just play around with my camera too much?? I think i was playing around changing between shooting modes while the lens was at telephoto, and when i went to fixed-focus, the lens didn't go back and was fixed at max-telephoto... Not that interesting, but could come in handy...

I haven't tried to see if it works with g2
What is the f/8 trick? : )
