Have just received my 400D and went into the New Forest, UK to try it out. As I only had the kit lens and am restricted with mobility, my options of subjects was rather limited. This shot I rather liked and dual processed the raw image before merginging. Comments warmly invited.

Enjoy the new camera.

Yes looks rather nice, well done..

Try adding a little more saturation when you process it, I know this look is down to personal preferance, but I think it will be nice, bringing out the purple in the flowers...

Well done, and as the other poster said - enjoy your new camera..

... I actually wouldn't change a thing. I think that the color is the most believable just the way it is, and the higher perspective allows us to appreciate the real expanse of the field.
Best of luck with the new camera. It looks to be a great machine !

Thanks for your comments. I must admit, I'm not too sure myself about the second attempt. The purple may be a tad too bright. As far as 'the purple is creaping into the sky' - this must be a visual thing cos it doesn't on the image - the sky and purple bit are two different copies of the same image, merged together after any processing.

Yes this suggestion by CityLights is a good'n, it would look nice... And yes your second version is sort of what I meant, but I think you went slightly over the top with purple, I would adjust the image to look something like this (and I'm no master at all.. but I quite like my pictures pretty saturated):

I just added a bit of contrast, bit of saturation and think it looks a little nicer. Of course, this is personal preference..
Excellent subject. The kit does a respectable job. For that shot, I
would have used the widest setting at f/11 or f/16 on a tripod and
gotten low and close to one of the wildflowers and let the background
fall in place behind that. Adds forground interest.

It is indeed a good shot. The only thing I would suggest it to try and avoid having the horizon split the image across the middle. A rough rule of thumb is to divide the image into thirds and put the horizon on either third. The bottom third to accentuate the sky and the top third to give depth to the foreground.

Yes, that is much better - you seem to have lifted the image up several notches. Back to the drawing board with my technique I think.

Re: the thirds rule - You're right, but I wasn't sure where to crop this particular image so I'll have to return to the scene one day and try again. Thanks for your comments.
