After reading a lot of tests about the new Canon S9000 printer I decided
to buy it.
Again I am disappointed in a digital imaging product.
( it took me a lot of time to find out that there is only one camera that
meets my expectations : Canon D60 , before that I owned 6 ones that
were a waist of time and money )
My old HP printer always gave me good quality , but I wanted a faster one
that's why I bought the S9000.

Why are all my prints too yellow and too low in contrast and why can't I get it any better , I tried all kind of settings and use the Canon pro paper?
PLEASE HELP !

this might be a dumb question, but when I have read before about s9000 clors being off like that, the problem was that the ink had been put into the printer in the wrong slots.......suggest you check that first.....would only take 2 inks to be in the wrong slots....and off you go....my s9000 prints really AWESOME! I have the D30 and recently printed 13X19 on Epson paper (set the paper in the printer to glossy film) and people that saw it thought that it was a purchased poster....needless to say...I was quite proud of my work and the tools I used to produce it.

Check the ink locations........regards, Herb

I don't what happened but suddenly the S9000 produces brilliant prints !

( I only made a change in the colorprofile , changed it from "printermangement" to "as original" )

( I dont know if these are the right English words , because I live in Holland and my software is in Dutch , so I translated it my own )

The right paper is very important !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried Epson Matte : very poor results
I tried Kodak Picture Paper : Even worse !

Epson Glossy : o.k.
Canon Photo Pro : super
Tetenal High Glossy special : perfect , really the best , but expensive

all of these brands were in my stock ,
you see : I've been puzzling before !

speed of the S9000 is unbelievable ,

also the borderless function is nice but you need to decrease your picture first to the exact size of the paper otherwise it will not be totally borderless.

Couldn't agree more. Paper/ink combination is crucial whatever the printer.

What settings?
I tried Kodak Picture Paper : Even worse !
Avoid Kodak Ultima Ultra Glossy.
Epson Glossy : o.k.
Standard Epson glossy?

My best prints currently (S900) are on Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper. Still waiting for A4 PPP to arrive to compare.
Canon Photo Pro : super
As far as I can tell on the 6x4 samples.
Tetenal High Glossy special : perfect , really the best , but
expensive
Never tried Tetenal - it's always rated highly but is rarely discussed on the forum. Must try some.

The Epsons and Canons slightly enlarge the image to achieve borderless printing by overspraying a few mm at the edges.

Don't know if you've noticed yet but there's a slider in the printer driver (2nd tab) next to borderless which allows you to adjust the amount of overprinting at the edges (the amount is detailed somewhere in the help files or manual). I try to print with minimum overspray - must save a bit of ink.

I swear to God you are the first one here to "thumbs down" the
epson matte paper!

Hi Scott

It's the type "matte paper heavyweight SO41256" that I use ,
prints are blurred , lack of contrast whatever I try.
Please tell me your settings because the Epson matte is what I like most
and the price is very much ok also.

reply on Richard ,

I saw the slider in the borderless menu.
Re : Epson Matte ,
I really tried whatever setting/papertype that's possible but no
good prints show up.
What setting should I use for the Epson Matte 167 gr ?

To be honest I don't use HWM that much, but I tried a few prints using PPP setting and thought they were very good. They certainly weren't blurred. Sounds odd. Like PPP I thought the prints looked better a few hours later.

I'm sure someone who uses HWM frequently will post some settings for you.

I received my 9000 yesterday and all 4 11X8.5s of a hi-contrast image are LOW-contrast. I can't figure it out. What did you do?

Anyone else? Using PPP, no ICM profile.

I've had a few prints with 'too yellow' flesh tones. Usually it's PSE's Auto Levels that does it. If I don't correct the color cast after I get the yellow cast. I've had great luck without any of the printer color management (except VIVID ON). I don't want the printer to interpret what I've decided the print should look like. I just want it to match what I see on the screen.

I love the Epson Lustre Photo paper. The Canon PPP is great too, but I've always liked the lustre finish better than glossy.
